Read moreAbsolutely fantastic and just had the best meal of my life.
I had already researched Kaum well and this was my number 1 destination restaurant in Jakarta.
I went onto the website and made a reservation for 4 at 6:30 and got immediate confirmation.
I then downloaded the menu from the website and selected all the dishes I wanted to try.
The overall quality of the food is amazing. The service is quick, efficient and with a big famous Indonesian smile.
We ate dishes from across Indonesian. For me that is a huge selling point as I like to try the different types of food.
The beef sate is slightly spicy and amazing.
The chicken sate is not spicy and amazing.
The dried anchovy dish the most amazing thing I have eaten.
The red spinich and coconut amazing.
The nasi goreng is beautiful and spicy.
The children's nasi goreng is not spicy.
The prawn sate is amazing and mild spicy.
The prawn curry is amazing. I could eat that every day.
And just when you think you can't eat anymore, you discover the desserts.
The pandan cake is amazing with a gorgeous coffee sauce.
The bread and butter pudding is heaven on a plate.
The non alcoholic cocktails are amazing. Really tasty and a representative of Indonesia, while the alcohol list is very extensive. Pages and pages of good wine and cocktails.
The meal for 4 cost IDR 2 million and we struggled to finish it all but we tried so very hard. I think the price was cheap for such excellent food, excellent staff and a fantastic ambiance.
We will go back for sure.
There is a private dining room and bar that will fit 40 people. I think I may arrange a team building exercise and ship all my staff to Indonesia just to eat some more food here.
Also, very glad to know that there is a branch in Hong Kong. So I will become a...
Read moreI have been coming to Kaum several times these last few months - much more than I had in the past several years. My favorite time to go do Kaum is actually after 4 p.m. This is when place is not hectic and the room temperature feels nice. For me it's just the perfect time to get coffee, eat some desserts and have a good chat or more formal discussions as the place is not too busy.
My favorite dessert is Kue Kojo Kukus Saos Kopi. If I am not mistaken, this dessert is originated from South Sumatera. Sue Kojo combined with black coffee is just right for me.
I did have lunch a couple of weeks ago, and ordered the Sate Ayam Sambal Kacang and Buncis Obrak Abrik. Sate Ayam is normal, while their Buncis Obrak Abrik is a tastier and more filling version of a homemade buncis. So it's appreciated.
I put 4 out of 5 for the atmosphere because the restaurant can get quite warm during certain hours (2 to 4 p.m.). In my opinion, this is because of the high ceiling, which is combined with an side-to-side glasses at the one side of the restaurant. Don't get me wrong - it's a nice looking restaurant, yet just can be a bit warm due to its setting.
While for the service, some are extra nice and attentive, to a point where she remembered me from my previous visit. Super love! (Forgot her name, will include it if I return there).
Yet some are just in their own space. I personally felt like we were a checklist that they needed to go through to finish the day. Would expect much more from a place like Kaum.
While for pricing - be ready to spend. I think for snack time, you can easily spend Rp 100k per person for a drink and a dessert. While for the lunch, easily Rp 150k++ per person.
Would I come back though? Yup, especially in...
