I’m not one to succumb to the allure of trends or the fear of missing out (FOMO). Instead, I prefer to take my time, allowing myself the luxury of forming my own conclusions. This approach is precisely why my recent visit to Bakerman at Ashta District 8 marks my first encounter with this increasingly popular establishment.
My visit happened rather serendipitously. My wife, an aficionado of fine pastries and sweet delicacies, made the spontaneous decision to dine there while we were spending the day out with our small family. Though I do not consider myself a connoisseur of sugary delights, I do pride myself on discerning the quality of a good dessert—an ability that earns me some respect within my circle.
My order of choice was the Magnum French Toast. From the very first bite, I was transported back in time, to a period in 2012 when Magnum Café at Grand Indonesia was my go-to spot for dates. This dish, in all its nostalgic splendor, evoked a flood of memories reminiscent of that era. The similarity between these experiences is striking, reviving long-forgotten joys buried deep within my consciousness.
Bakerman has adeptly mastered the art of recreating these cherished memories, especially for millennials who hold a special place for ice cream and indulgent French toast in their hearts. The execution is remarkable, a testament to the establishment's ability to tap into the emotional and sensory depths of its patrons.
The croissant, on the other hand, while not as daring in its presentation, achieves a subtle excellence that merits appreciation. It strikes a delicate balance, delivering an exceptional experience on the palate without overwhelming the senses.
However, while the culinary offerings at Bakerman are certainly commendable, I must point out a minor flaw in the dining experience: the cutlery. The utensils are notably heavy, to the extent that using them becomes tiresome over the course of a meal. This small, yet significant, detail detracts from the overall dining experience, as it adds an unnecessary layer of discomfort.
In conclusion, Bakerman proves itself to be a worthy destination for those in search of both nostalgia and culinary delight. Its ability to evoke fond memories while delivering high-quality pastries and desserts makes it a must-visit. However, a slight adjustment in their choice of cutlery could elevate the experience even further, ensuring that the joy of the meal is unimpeded by any...
Read moreBakerman's pastry definitely one of the best I've tried. So we decided to give it a go for the dish that they offer. Place are quiet spacious, have many tables, you don't have to wait in line for a table, but still have to wait in line for pastry as that was on weekend. Service is okay, the waitress and waiters try hard enough to occupy every customer needs, but because the restaurant is like divided into 2 parts, one near the pastry display, the other is on the other side which is kinda far, makes them seems overwhelmed. The menu book is very thick like a bible and have so many variety of dishes, from indonesian to western and also fusion. Picture of the menu book look so appetizing ( not that important). For the pastry I definitely recc the triple cheese, pastry flaky crispy, but soft inside, with cheese white sauce coating it, fills with this sweet cream cheese (around IDR 40k) Had the almond croissant as well, taste wise okay, pastry is delicious, but nothing special. Had their meatball something (IDR 95K), this is probably the worst meal of the day I've tried. Include 5 meatball with 2 sauce. Meatball more like pepper ragout paste shape in round, is like ragout cream with overwhelming pepper taste coat in breadcrumb, sauce is not even help the taste at all, regret ordering this. Croffle original (IDR 30K ish something), Kinda very hard texture, makes it chewy instead of crispy soft probably because of the sugar coating. the ice cream is tasty and worth to try, but you have to dine in to be able to order it. Ice cream soft, coated with hazelnut or probably more like lotus biscoff paste. I order this oddly drink, supposed to be refreshing, is an orange drink something, the waitress recc it but please dont, it's like one big orange fills the glass and hardly any water in it, it's like i have to squeeze the orange myself.
overall, I probably would only order pastry here instead of the dish and drinks. since you should be wary of resto that serves many dish as it will be not...
Read moreNot a single hint of butter aroma in your pastries and you dare to call yourself "Bakerman" 🤦🏻 Overhyped and overpriced
Bought choco cromboloni, apple crumble, egg tart, and flourless chocolate as takeaways. I can forgive the pastries not being crunchy (bcs takeaway), but I can't forgive them not being tasty esp if I paid quite a hefty amount of money.
Also had dinner there, bought kopi Nusantara & nasi goreng gila. Staffs are nice but the service was slow. Coffee was meh tastewise, and they gave so little that it was gone within a few sips. It was like 75% ice-25% coffee!
Nasi goreng was too sweet and too salty at the same time. Nasi goreng has bone with bone marrow in it but the marrow was too little that it was basically just a useless ornament. The chillies used for nasi goreng were not fresh, I found some that are blackened/molded. For a Rp105.000 nasi goreng at least give me smthg with fresh ingredients ffs!
And I can't believe I have to say this but I hate your cutleries as well. They're too heavy, the handles were too rounded they kept spinning/slipping when used. The spoon head was too deep and too elongated, doesn't fit right...
