Tontoki MIDPLAZA — Restaurant in Jakarta

I have always been a fan of their tontoki don. Love love love their tontoki don. Never once I changed my order when coming here.

However these days the quality of the meat has been downgrading. There were lots of bones and fat that is hard to chew. When I tried tontoki for the first and second time, they had it all very good. Tender meat, super well cooked rice (pulen as we say it) with lots of fried garlic. Super good no complains. I just hope they would use better meat with less fat and no bones.

The place itself is really cozy they have several private booth for two people. However the service was rather slow, we couldnt get hold of any of the waitress and the call button inside the booth doesnt seem to be working. We had to call to the restaurant using our phone to notify their waitress that we needed...

The Tontoki don is the rice bowl with thick-cut pork belly basted and grilled with sweet sauce and topped with fried onion. They give generous portion of pork belly. We also tried the Stamina don which consist of thinly sliced pork belly with salty shio sauce. You can also have it in tare (sweet) sauce but we choose the shio because the Tontoki don is already sweet. The lunch set comes with miso soup and a yakult to wash off the oily pork belly. We also tried the gyoza very meaty and tasted good. We ordered their katsu one time and the meat happens to be tough that time. We never tried it...

Parking : Plenty of parking inside midplaza.

Decoration : very Japanese style. Loved it.

Food & Drinks : tontokidon is a must try. Tasty and rich of flavour. Pork gyoza is well grilled, really need to try that for your appetizer. I tried the curry too, you can taste a very rich flavour of curry and it was quite salty for me.

Price : decent price but the food taste really nice. So, very worth it

Overall : will come back again to try other food...
