Disappointing experience.
Recently visited the Uluwatu location with my partner after absolutely loving my experience at Mason Canggu.
A couple of notes: Bigger things: ALL of our entrees arrived simultaneously, such a weird choice, I literally only ate one olive for the whole night. Trying to eat meatballs while they are still hot, but also mixing the carpaccio and tuna tartare (which were individually delicious but not all at the same time). Even the bread and olives all arrived at the same time as the rest of our entrees, just ridiculous.
So we took our time with entrees, as we had ordered a lot of them.
Then, the second we finished our last bite of our entrees, I got a tap on our shoulder and our mains were there!!
They hadn't avan cleared our plates from entrees, I came so close to turning it around and asking them to wait. Honestly laughable, as we were so full and needed a pause.
It was at this point that we had to actually ask for water, which we had not been offered at any stage until this point.
Needless to say we did not finish our food, as we were so full.
Smaller things: The wine (SP68) actually needed decanting, as it was a bit musty out of the bottle. Side note - normally ordering a $140 wine would at least get you the offer of a table, instead of staying at the bar, which we expressed was not our first preference.
We had a lot of trouble getting the attention of wait staff, people seemed to be just standing around, which is fine until I have been actively trying to make eye contact to signal for the bill for 10 mins.
Overall, really disappointed, as mason Canggu was incredible! Food was still delicious, but service needed a lot of improvement.
We were planning to stay for dessert and cocktails, but ended up leaving as we were not enjoying...
Read more2 of my friends recommended this place because of their good food and while I do agree the quality and taste of the food was great and very flavourful (++ having to travel 1 hour by car to eat here), I had no choice to still give it 3 stars because of the poor staff service and attention.
I made my online reservation for 3 pax (2 adults + 1 toddler). When I reached the restaurant, they ushered us to a 2-seater table and had merely added an extra chair when I requested for my toddler. Whilst they informed me that they were kid friendly restaurant, I honestly hoped that they would have been more attentive and understanding that a toddler is still a 3rd pax which requires a proper table setting.
My biggest displeasure was really their refusal to give me an extra table/move me to another bigger table especially when I had ordered 2 starters, 3 mains and 3 sides plus 2 drinks - I had even asked them twice!!! When they were serving our 3 mains + 3 sides, they were struggling to place everything on the 2-seater table and had to remove my husband's eating plate and my drink from the table to make space. Their excuse was that there wasn't any available tables but throughout my dinner service - there was 2 bigger tables (4-seater and a 5-seater) that was still empty even when we left.
Honestly, I'm very torn on whether to recommend my friends to visit this place because the lack of attentiveness of the staff especially when I'm paying a premium price on the food and is already expecting better quality of service that comes with it.
I do hope that you take my review seriously and improve on it as I don't wish for anyone else to face this situation like...
Read moreI had high expectations, but this place was extremely disappointing. First, the prices are already above average, and on top of that, they charge extra tax and service fees. Most luxury, modern restaurants in Bali include these fees in their prices, so this felt unreasonable—especially since cheaper places typically charge separately. Seems to me they haven’t decided yet so they want cheap look over the restaurant or luxury.
The service at the entrance was also off-putting. The lady at the front door with dark, short hair and red lips didn’t make us feel welcome at all. She didn’t smile and gave us and other clients a look that seemed to say, Why are you even here? and she has very mad face.
As for the food, it was tasteless. The cocktails were even worse. I ordered an Amaretto Sour, which tasted like straight whisky—absolutely disgusting. I tried a Lychee Martini next, but it was poorly made as well. My friends had similar experiences with their cocktails. It’s clear the bartenders don’t know what they’re doing.
You can only have table for 2,5 hours. 15 minutes earlier one of the staff member already came to tell us we have to leave they need this table. We gave them table and we were sitting at the bar to wait our other friends to finish up their food in another table. After 45min later our table was still remaining empty but they rushed us to give the table back because they need a table.
I wouldn’t recommend this place. There are so many other fantastic spots in Bali with great food, proper cocktails, and no extra hidden fees. Save your time and...
