We have been here before and have always enjoyed our experiences. Unfortunately I need to write an updated review due to our recent visit at thali. We had a reservation for a table for two, on arrival we were seated and handed the menus. The music was pleasant and atmosphere inviting. Having sat down and ordered we were then given poppadoms and sauces, all delicious. However before we were even finished the poppadoms they were removed from the table abruptly by the waiter. Not even a minute later our mains were out. We had barely been sat in the restaurant 5 minutes. Obviously the food wasn’t prepared freshly and had just been reheated in a microwave. We had our mains way before our naan came out and were waiting for the naan before finishing our main so as to have it together. It wasn’t ideal having to wait on a naan. As we were eating, our dishes were being taken away so as to clear the table, one of which still had sauce in it. It was the opposite of relaxing as it felt as though they were trying to get us out as soon as possible so as to bring in another customer, baring in mind we had only been in 10 minutes at this stage. As soon as our plates were cleared they took them from the table. It really felt like they just wanted us out. My husband had a beer and as he took his last sip the waiter was there ready to take the glass and give the bill as if they had been watching and waiting. We were not asked if everything was okay or if we wanted a dessert or coffee. We were in the restaurant a total of half an hour max. I think due to being rushed out the door we won’t be back. For the money you pay for the food which is on the expensive side, the service was a massive let down. It’s rude to make your customers feel like they shouldn’t be there and so rushed. As far as the food was concerned, we had ordered the butter chicken and the lang tang lamb. The sauce in the butter chicken was tasty but the chicken was tough and overcooked. The lang tang was tasty. Had it not been for such poor service I would be writing a better review but I really would like to make a point to the owners that that type of service is...
Read moreFrom the onset, as you enter, you find yourself in Nepal, very beautiful decor including Tibetan flags, Buddhist artefacts, Nepalese table cloths, and traditional music. The place is very clean and the service is very friendly. The food is amazing. The Mo:Mo for starter makes you ask for more more, the fish curry is to die for. Excellent diner experience!
(EDIT): They just moved place a couple of weeks ago, and the new place just looks as great as the previous. The food remains uncompromised. This restaurant offers all you need from a good night out for dinner. Very friendly and prompt service and no waiting for the best Nepalese food you can find in Ireland by far. They are the best!
SECOND EDIT: I visited this place after I haven't been for 5 years. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the fish curry on the menu anymore. 8 was so looking forward to it, as 8t was the best.
I went for the Jingha Macha Ko Tarkari, which comes close second. I really recommend this dish. Also a testament to their standard as it hasn't come down in all those years.
I'd also like to compliment them again on the interior. It looks authentic...
Read moreStaff are always friendly in here. This is the first Nepalese restuarant I've been to, and this restaurant has single-handedly made Nepalese food one of my favourite cuisines in the world. Have had a few of their dishes on the many occasions I've been here, like the Nepali chicken curry (pictured), kheer (Nepalese rice pudding), momo (Nepalese dumplings), and butter chicken (one of my favourite dishes ever. In fact, I taste-tested every Indian and Nepalese restaurant I could find in Cork city centre and the surrounding area for their butter chicken, and Thali was the best).
A friend of mine told me about Nepalese food, which I had never heard of before then, which got me excited to try this new cuisine, and wondering where's the nearest place I can go to get it. And then I overheard a man mention a Nepalese restaurant on Pope's Quay (this was before they moved) while I was at my semi-local Chinese, and soon after, I discovered Thali, and never looked back. Now, I've decided to introduce some of my friends to Thali, in the hopes more people will discover this place, and possibly find their new...
