Choriqueso Taquitos Dorados Horchata

I have been meaning to try this place for years. There is a Mexican food void in my life that I want to fill, and while there seem to be plenty around Dublin, many have an air of TexMex (which is fine but not quite what I want, as I still have trauma from the burrito rampage of Dublin). I'm no expert, but Agave truly feels like proper Mexican (though feel free to correct me). Repeat visits needed to go through their menu!

The choriqueso had strong flavour in the chorizo, and the sheer melted gooeyness of the cheese actually turned this into a fun dish to eat. The corn tortillas stole the show - having been fried, the toasted aroma was fantastic to have with the meat and cheese. The taquito I wasn't a huge fan of but still enjoyed - deep fried corn tortillas filled with cheese and chicken, topped with sour cream, lettuce and pico de Gallo. The flavours were extremely simple and I would've liked some salsa with it - very much WYSIWYG. I'd almost say this would be something I'd snack on than have as a main.

Horchata was perfect - cold, refreshing but also toed the line of dessert. Light and delicately sweet...

Food is ok but sadly just had a bad experience with this place that I want to share:

I ordered yesterday 16 tamales and they told me to collect today at 2pm. At 3.30pm I called before leaving my house to ask if the order was ready and said yes, reason is that I live far. When I arrived at 5pm they told me the order wasn't ready and would need to wait 45 mins. Even though was raining I was already there so decided to wait just walking around. 40 mins later I called to confirm while I was on my way back to the restaurant, and they confirmed the order was ready but they were busy with other orders and would need to wait longer for them to pack.

Of course I cancelled my order and I'm on my way back home, wet, empty handed and having wasted my...

I have been so excited to visit here, having heard such good reviews! There's very much a street food vibe to the place, it's quite cheap and their one aim is good food. We weren't disappointed - we received a good explanation of the food before ordering the chicken tacos, chicken taquitos and some tortilla chips with pico de gallo. The chicken in the tacos was fried which gave it a nice variation in texture to the soft tacos. I asked for their spiciest salsa and got one that wasn't, but it was flavourful all the same. The taquitos are fried, rolled tacos which was something I hadn't come across before. Even the pico de gallo was just gorgeous. We tried the lime and cola jarritos - bit like seven up and mountain dew. Will...

Wow! The definitive place to go for real Mexican food, good ambience and a lovely welcome. Agave was incredible. The food is spectacular and the portions incredibly generous. The blue corn tacos are delicious and the guacamole probably the best I've ever had. Fresh homemade nachos, incredible pastor and the sharpest pineapple. Definitely somewhere to check out if you're around the city and want to try something a bit different. Non greasy and hugely flavoursome too! The tinto de verano is also a lovely and very different alcoholic drink to try, thing of an elevated sangria. Crisp and refreshing. 100% coming back for my Mexican fix
