Our waitress was great. The maitre d' was absolutely dreadful from start to finish, to the point of being creepy. We were there for a family celebration which was somewhat marred by his repeated odd remarks. When we arrived he haughtily told us that he had called us "more than 10 times" to confirm the booking. Not one of us had received a call. Perhaps the number given was wrong - I can't say at this point, but the attitude definitely was.
For some inexplicable reason, the maitre d' would only deal with my sister. He brought 3 drinks menus for a 10 person table and when I asked for one, told me "I had to drive the ladies home". It might have been a funny joke if he had eventually brought another menu, but he didn't.
After we had ordered but before any food arrived he approached the table, this time to tell my sister that he "remembered her" from having been there before. She had previously been to the restaurant once on a date, and did not appreciate having it brought up in front of her entire family.
This set the tone for the rest of our dinner. We cleared our plates and glasses to one end of the table so as to make it easier for the wait staff to collect, but also to move them further from my sister who had been made so uncomfortable by the maitre d' thusfar. She even went so far as to move seat so that she would not be on the corner he had to approach from.
Surprise surprise, the maitre d' decided rather than to collect the plates and cutlery from the most convenient side, he would go around the side of the table and reach over my sister.
Obviously I can't speak to the man's intentions, but either the guy is a complete creep or he is so incapable of reading a room that he is poorly suited to the role.
The reason this isn't a one or two star review is that the food was actually deadly. Really delicious stuff! The service was also deadly and our waitress was fantastic! The wine list was well priced and interesting, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. I just wouldn't go again and that's down to our experience with the maitre d'...
Read moreToscana is located in the busy and bustling Dame Street which is packed with restaurant's aplenty. One good thing with most eateries in Dublin is that they place the menu along with the prices right at the outside giving a glimpse of what to expect for the customers. I happened to see a two course meal for a price of about 20 Euros and decided to give it a shot. The rate looks quite a deal especially since most singular items themselves cost around the same and with this you get to try 2 items for more or less the same price.
In the appetizer section, I went in for the Suppli which are basically Italian breaded rice balls in the form of a croquette. There were 4 of them and the plating was done up nicely with each of them given separate space and coming along with a garlic dip. The arborio rice inside stuffed with mozzarella tasted quite creamy and fresh.
On the main course side of things checked out the Vegetarian Lasagne fare. This was pretty tantalising with cheese infused all over the plate surrounding the layered sheets of pasta which themselves were quite hard hitting and deliciously creamy comprising major portions of brocolli florets along with pomodoro, courgette, spinach and ricotta cheese. It would have been nice if there could have been a piece or two of garlic bread to additionally complement it but however the dish overall felt quite full fledged and nice on the tongue.
The service was quite quick with hardly much waiting time. They were also quite sweet to check in regularly if things were fine. The rates in general seem a bit on the higher side but thankfully with this combo deal didn't really set back too much. The ambience is designed in the form of a pub and gives a laidback insouciant feel with dim lights and dark color pallette doing a tango. Overall a nice little eatery for craving Italian delicacies which has been serving customers right from...
Read moreThe atmosphere was a bit too loud due. To the busy at all times. Food as for the main course: penne entrecote, it was a mistake to add the cheese. Had a bite beforehand without any cheese and served without parmesan cheese which to be fair does not need it. the sauce was full of flavors and after giving it a shot with the parmesan cheese I knew after the first bite it was a mistake, the meat is tender and the chunks are big not small grinded pieces to the point you barely feel what you have. The pasta itself was made just right not too eldante not too soft. Portion wise Was worth the price of the dish. As for the dessert, a bit disappointed with the portion size as the price was worth a lil bigger portion. The presentation was fantastic on both the main course and dessert. As for the service very fast delivered the food from the time was ordered. Plus there are many waiters on call ready to help. Will recommend trying anything on their menu as for the pasta or any other dish you're used to having on it. if not served with something trust it the flavors won't disappoint you became what's served are well-picked and made with the best possible ingredient...
