Going to thus pub for over 50 years. The 63 year old self proclaimed bar boy was so rude to our Australian visitors who were looking for an authentic Dublin pub was out of order, including this man following our visitor outside. They were hungry after day out of Dublin, he brought in a bag of chips as the pub doesn't do food, lots of times we got platters delivered to the pub with no problem. I think this barman was sampling his own product to the extent that he doesn't like working there anymore. Please retire. The other barman (his brothers) are so friendly and polite. He also cut my sister off mid sentence, who was trying to explain ...

Was instantly refused service upon entering due to "no kids being allowed, except maybe on Paddies day". It was 6pm and we entered as a family, 2 adults+2 kids. The barman was not in any way apologetic and his manner was akin to a prison guard in Auschwitz. We left immediately without questioning this policy, but were quite taken aback ! Maybe their Guinness is good but these old farts really should try to catch-up with the norm. Lovely pint was had next door and we were all made feel very welcome 🤗

20 people in there, 18 drinking pints of Guinness. Seriously, these are amazingly good pints. No, Google. It hasn't changed and I hope it won't change. That's what makes the place so good. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Shame about this place. It had the potential to be excellent, it's not a food pub so best look somewhere else if that's what you're after.

I was here with family, and was looking to bring chips as we had been for a while at the pub, and had spent a fair bit. It was explained to me that this isn't a "food bar" fairly rudely, which I get, it wasn't approached very well by one particular staff member.

As I'm a tourist and this was my first time visiting this place. Felt like this could have been handled better and less embarrassing in front of the family. I did vacate with the food immediately but was followed out the pub to be told off a second time, and that I should have requested to bring food in. I'm going to chalk this up to a cultural experience that differs from my own but probably won't be back. Probably won't be back, and we'll give folks a heads up on this with...

Visiting from Australia and our family were excited to show us their local they've been frequenting for years. We were there for a few hours and they don't serve food so my husband brought some chips in.

The level of hostility levelled at us by what I can only assume is the owner was so unwarranted. Yelled at several of us, followed my husband outside after he went to eat outside trying to deescalate the situation. He even ended up having a go at my aunty, accusing us of "thinking he's some 63 year old lounge boy".

We tried to apologize as we had no idea we had broken some cardinal rule, but a calm "no food in here" would have been sufficient. Instead we had to leave as we were so rattled and really marred our last...
