Visited Smyths of Ranelagh for the first time last night for some leaving drinks. Ordered a beer (czech pilsner) and after a few sups it was clear there was something wrong. So i approached the head barman who had served me and very politely said the pint wasnt great. He said what did i expect as it was the first pint and the first pint is always bad. (news to me as a fella who wasnt drinking his first pint last night). He continued, saying if every fella who came in handed back the first pint out of the tap he'd be giving out a lot of free pints. I said you cant expect people to drink bad pints just because its the first one. He then turned the conversation in a different direction by using a butcher analogy by asking if i would take the first piece of meat from a butcher, The question confused me so i retorted by saying that if i had paid for the meat then i would expect it would be edible. He had no response to this, handed me a pint of Five Lamps (which i had asked for a replacement and was perfect) and walked off. I offered him money but he wouldnt engage with me, and just stayed own the other end of the bar until i walked off. All the other staff were really helpful and professional but I wouldnt be in a hurry back and I doubt the barman would lose too much sleep judging by his attitude. If he is to use analogies in the future to explain away the bad pints he pulls then I would suggest he puts some thought into them...
Read moreI don’t do these post often but here is one: DON’T GO TO SMYTH’S PUB in Ranelagh. I live in Ranelagh and have been to this pub occasionally but I had this incident this evening and I am very disappointed by the behaviour.
I was there this evening waiting for my husband to come because I forgot my keys to enter home and it was very cold outside. I didn’t order any drinks but the pub was nearly empty and I waited beside the door for a few minutes before the manager (I’m not sure about his role, photo below) came and asked me to leave because I wasn’t a customer. He told me I had to leave asap and this was not a bus stop. I explained him I wasn’t waiting for the bus and he reiterated that the pub was only for customers and started questioning me. I told him I was their customer previously but I was just waiting there for a few minutes but he was extremely rude. When I told I wasn’t going to come to their pub again due to this behaviour, he told me he didn’t want customers like me. He kept ignoring me and making rude comments and how he did not care about customers. We argued for some more minutes and when I was leaving he shouted “be careful” behind my back in a threatening tone.
ASIDE FROM ETHICS/BEING A NICE PERSON, THIS BEHAVIOUR IS UNACCEPTABLE IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD. I will definitely not be going back to SMYTH’S, I wanted make you all aware of this type of...
Read moreRACIST… I’ve never pulled the race card but I have also never been harassed out of a bar before! My friends and I who were visiting Ireland for work were harassed by this woman who was a friend of the owner or one of the staff. We thought she was a random drunk but when we told the waitress about her the waitress ignored us, looked at the woman, and took her order like we didn’t exist! The woman kept asking us if we were sex traffickers and when we asked her to leave she kept insulting us and saying if we aren’t careful her friends in the back would come out and talk with us. Then we saw that everyone around us was white and got the message to leave. As we left with our drinks unfinished the woman was talking to an older man who looked like the owner or manager, as though they were friends. You go and make your own judgements on the place but look around and see if you see anyone who isn’t white being served. This was just our experience and unfortunately it was horrible. Here’s a picture of the woman kneeling at our table and...
