Based solely on service and drinks alone while reflecting on our week in Ireland as a whole, The Oak keeps coming up in mind as our favorite pub experience.
Tuesday night we stopped in (to the red framed entrance to the right of the blue frame) after a long day of walking around, sight seeing and a Guinness tour. Our first bartender was Alex who was friendly and attentive. When he unfortunately left another young man named Keelan took over. He was funny, kind, sarcastic, attentive, and even had wrote a list of bars that he felt we must try while in Dublin. Both bartenders were our favorites in Ireland which that alone says a lot for The Oak itself.
We had Irish coffees and then some beers. Loved the glass that the coffee was served in!
My young cousin had a ham and cheese toastie while we were there and she kept commenting on how much she was enjoying it. It makes me want to go back for one, which we might just tonight, our last night in town.
Multiple times we commented on how if we lived in Dublin, The Oak would be a place we would go to for after work drinks on a regular basis. It’s nice that you can find that level of just service alone in a touristy area that left us with a lasting impression.
UPDATE: We stopped back on Friday, our last day before leaving town. Keelan and Alex were both there but Keelan was our main bartender. We definitely feel that the Oak was our favorite bar/pub stop on our trip and that Keelan was our favorite bartender during our entire trip and said maybe even our favorite in general. We hope The Oak knows what a valuable employee they have and that he receives the recognition...
Read moreOriginal went a few days ago around 12 in the afternoon looking for some food and told “we should be serving around 12:30 maybe or possibly 13:00 depending when chef comes in”. So we went elsewhere.
That should have told us everything we needed to know!
Stupidly we went this afternoon, ordering food and drinks, nothing major, only chicken wings, 2x toasties, sweet potatoes fries and a Cesar wrap.
When ordering the wrap we were asked if we wanted chips or soup? Same for the toasties and the group went for chips.
Food was brought out at different times at different temperatures which was disappointing given we had the wait circa 40 minutes for something which takes a short time to make. Plus the drinks only came when the food came even after asking several time where the drinks were!
When we asked it the bill we found the chips were all extra at €4 which wasn’t made clear on the menus or by the staff asking the questions originally.
We were able to explain this eventually getting them removed, but it took what’s should have been a nice meal into something giving us a headache.
Personally wouldn’t go back but I hope others have a positive experience. It’s a slight blip to an otherwise lovely long...
Read moreWe are French, came yesterday night with friends to take a drink. We wanted to have a beer at "The Beer Temple" bar, but when we arrived, a waiter told us that there were no more seats available at the tables. We ended up at the counter of "The Oak" bar to enjoy a beer.
The setting of this bar was magnificent, with a great atmosphere overall and a wide selection of beers.
Some people in our group didn't speak English fluently, so we asked the bartender to simplify our order, if we could directly choose our beers by touching the logos of the beers on the beer taps. Judging by his reaction, it seemed to bother him.
So for the second round, we called him over, and he came to us, looked at us, and sighed very loudly in front of us, clearly indicating that we were not welcome and that he had no desire to serve us.
It's just unacceptable behavior for a bar, so despite the lovely setting of the bar, I cannot recommend this establishment, especially...
