I opted for the roast of the day when travelling to Newcastle on Saturday 6th September 25. The meat, bacon loin" was well cooked, and nice, without being special. For airport food it was very good. The rest though was poor at best. Whilst the potatoes were well cooked, they had spent far to long on the serving trays, and were luke warm by the time I was tucking into them. As for the vegetables, I was given garden peas and carrots, cold and bland. The girl who served me the food was very pleasant. At the till, I was being served by a young male, but as I was talking to him, a supervisor decided she needed the lad more than me to do heavy lifting, so he left me, and a young lady took over. The place was quiet, and the 30 seconds it would have taken to serve me wouldn't have made a difference. It was definitely a case of, I am the boss, & I will show you all so. The atmosphere was fine, but the bar next to the restaurant had a group of rowdy, yet we'll behaved men, that caused a bit of a disturbance. I read previous reviews, and the food being luke warm has been mentioned numerous times, and the organisation always says it will review their procedures. This appears to be paper talk rather than a real commitment. The food was very well cooked, so credit to the chef(s), the decor is very pleasant & the service is really good, but with a little more focus on the customer from the bosses, and less on moving a heavy object right away would have been...
Read moreIt was a busy Saturday morning and having looked at the alternative places this appeared to be the best value with the best choice so we got trays and picked what to have. I had been looking forward to a good breakfast for hours having been up early for a flight (surprise surprise) and while my partner enjoyed her poached egg & toast the veggie fry up was very disappointing - no fake "bacon" or sausage to start with, a million overcooked 'shrooms & the scrambled egg was clearly made of powder :( The beans were cold too which made the whole meal cold - the Guinness soda bread was good. By the time you've found a seat you can't be bothered to go back to complain.
HOWEVER - while mine was not worth 1 star hers was and we were impressed by how friendly the staff were, and helpful.
Coming from today's England this made a very pleasant change!
Whether they were behind the bar, at the till or clearing tables they were all smiling and polite making a stressful place (being in a busy airport) a nice place to be. I did notice management walking around with purpose keeping an eye on things too which is another rare sight these days. So you get another 3 stars for customer service.
Also next time I'm there I will give the food another go, perhaps I was...
Read moreI stumbled into this pub on a stormy Thursday night, drawn by a flickering sign and the promise of warmth. What I got was something else entirely. Shium greeted me first — or did he summon me? His smile was just a little too perfect, and his eyes knew things no bartender should know. I ordered a stout, but what he gave me tasted like it had been brewed in a cauldron under a blood moon. Delicious. Terrifying.
Chloe floated over next — yes, floated. Her voice echoed like a distant song you only hear in dreams (or nightmares). She poured a gin and tonic that shimmered with something that might’ve been starlight… or souls. It changed color halfway through the drink, and I swear I started hearing whispers in the ice.
Then Josh appeared. I didn’t see him arrive. One moment, I was alone, the next, he was beside me — grin sharp enough to cut glass, hands too fast for mortal eyes. He told me the specials, but the words weren’t in English. I ordered anyway. I still don’t know what I ate. It moved.
This pub isn’t just a place. It’s a portal. The drinks are potent, the atmosphere is eldritch, and the staff? Absolutely spellbinding. Five stars, and one ominous premonition. I’ll be back. If I...
