I love this bar. I'm rarely back in Ireland, but always love coming here. That said, tonight I had a very strange incident at Carroll's.
I bought a drink at the back-bar and was given a drink meant for another customer. I took a drink from the glass. After I did, the bartender asked me if I took a drink and informed me that the drink was for another customer. While the following discussion wasn't heated, I felt a strong sense of anger from the bartender. I understood that this may have been a lack of communication between both of us, and I was happy to apologise for the mistake. However, she called the security guards over through a walkie-talkie and I realised there was breakdown in communication and things were going too far. My drinks were taken away until the security arrived. I explained to the two security guards what happened and they asked me to stay away from the back-bar because the bartender felt disrespected- a request I was happy to oblige to (despite feeling that I hadn't been majorly in the wrong) if it meant that I could continue about my night. I asked if I could rejoin my friends and stay away from the back bar. I was told I could.
Two minutes after rejoining my friends, I was approached by the two security guards and was told that I had to leave. The security guards thanked me for being cooperative as I left the bar. I love Carroll's but was upset with the reaction of the bar lady tonight. I feel that the bartender's reactions were out of line and I hope that an improvement in her attitude is seen in the future.
If the service team at Carroll's would like to reach out in regards to this matter, they can leave their contact...
Read moreI went here to celebrate a family occasion. We had a more formal celebration in the day and decided to go here for a drink at 7pm in the evening on a Tuesday night seen as they have the lovely new beer Garden. We had a table booked. We arrived in our suits and dresses to the empty bar due to the time and day. The doorman tells us that itâs over 21âs only and weâll all be IDâd at the desk. We were mostly in our 30âs with my mother in her 50âs and one of my siblings in her 20âs. I understand cars doing this to stop a group of young wreckless student coming and ruining the atmosphere. But what would they have done in this case, denied my one sister entry even though sheâs legal age to attend a pre booked drink with her mother early on a Tuesday night. My mother also didnât drink as she was driving and the barman grilled us when he heard she was just drinking tonic accusing her of having liquor in her purse. All these things are fine if we were a group of young wans going to a trashy club but this seemed like a classier place with a quirky beer garden. The staff treated us like we were drunks in a dive bar even in the day when itâs quiet which left a sour taste. At the end of the day no matter what renovations theyâve made if they staff treat the place like itâs a dive bar, then that makes...
