We opted for Murphy's because it was the only ice cream parlor still open after dinner, which struck us as odd since it was only 8 PM and there were large crowds, particularly of young adults—ideal for an ice cream shop. Upon entering, it quickly became evident that this establishment is renowned for its high-quality ice cream and excellent treatment of its staff, which we truly appreciated.
I never imagined I would enjoy bread in my ice cream—it sounds like a terrible mix—but it turned out to be the best ice cream I've ever tasted, and the chocolate whiskey flavor was simply divine.
For those with allergies: I’m from Canada and have had a severe cow's milk allergy my entire life. If I consume anything with milk, I need lactaid immediately! However, during my time in Ireland, I found that I could drink milk without any adverse effects. In fact, since returning home, I've been craving Irish milk! So, if you have any dairy sensitivities, rest assured you’ll be fine. Make sure to visit Murphy's Ice Cream while in Galway; you’ll definitely regret it if you miss out!
My only suggestion for improvement is regarding their payment system—it was a bit confusing. I nearly left without paying because I mistakenly thought I had completed the transaction, only to realize I had only tapped the tipping machine, which is separate. It would be beneficial for the shop to combine transaction types into one machine. Additionally, be prepared for higher prices, as it’s definitely on the touristy side, but the quality and flavor make it worth...
Read moreMurphy's in Galway is another reason not to let capitalism run amok. The shop is in a building that once, in its upper floors, enabled four lodgers to occupy its four bedrooms. In a town that has a housing crisis, this makes no sense at all. Yes, the building cost a fortune to buy, but at least the owners could open it up to help ease the dearth of housing. Now, for the ice cream, you can see why so many visit Ireland and never recommend it for others to visit. For example, in Berlin, you can get a sundae made with homemade ice cream, whipped cream, fruit, nuts and syrup of your choice for €5, not here. In this spot, you can get barely a taste of two leprechaun scoops for €5. They make such a big deal at the shop about how the ice cream is made from quality ingredients, but, come on, you're not paying for the ice cream; you're paying for the price of their mortgage, insurance, two minimum wagers and tax. Perhaps they could bring the price down for their measly portions by not brilliantly forgoing rental income from the four empty...
Read moreFirst time here ordered a cone with brownie & dingle sea salt and a tub with dingle sea salt and Irish coffee and must say very very poor quality Ice cream . Very little flavour of any of the above. Was met by a guy on the way in to show u to the counter that is literally in front of you Talking with some stupid accent for the tourists same with the guy serving the ice cream. Got the product anyway and then comes the bill €15.60 !!!! That is for 5 scoops of ice cream that is of very low quality. €3.10 per scoop !!! It’s no wonder you don’t see a cue outside like the Italian one up the road (which has far better quality and cheaper) If you are going to charge them sort of prices at least make sure it is of high quality!!!!! 2 stars is been...
