Such a mixed experience. Two of us entered at about 19.30 on a beautiful sunny Thursday evening in summer. Around Limerick outside areas of eateries and bars full of diners and drinkers. I asked for an outside table. The manager asked if it was for food or drinks. I said dinner. He said that we could not sit outside for dinner. Only for drinks. I was kind of baffled. Anyway he got us a nice table by the window which we waited a couple of minutes for whiled he cleaned it. Menus were brought, we were not asked if we would like an aperitif (more about no upselling later). We waited fifteen minutes for a server, without a beverage, trying to get someone's attention to order. The server was pleasant, straight forward order of one starter, two mains and two glasses of wine and tap water. The menu is good and unlike other reviewers think it reasonably priced. The winelist is overpriced for what it offers and not good. The food arrived in a timely manner. My started plate was cleared and mains arrived. All food was fantastic. We were not asked how anything was. And we were not asked would we like extras, anything else or another glass of wine (opportunity to sell). Basically we did not see anyone again once mains were dropped. In the meantime. Two tables were seated outside with food menus, and proceeded to order and eat food while we sat at our window table. This made no sense. We finished our food and waited/ tried to get attention to clear plates, order desserts and coffees (more lost sales) for twenty minutes. Eventually I got the attention of our server and asked him to clear our plates. We were both so irritated by the experience this far I asked for the bill. He walked away from the table empty handed and spoke to the manager at the service hatch. Not very discreet. The manager came over with the bill, our main course plates are still in front of us. The table beside struck up conversation with us about how long we had waited. I told the manager about the table service he was apologetic and then I asked about our request to eat outdoors. He really did not explain it. He said something about this is how the management want it. I said I don't understand that it is illogical. But I am still baffled at this unfair, unreasonable treatment of us. Having worked in hospitality this restaurant was clearly understaffed, probably to keep overheads down. But the problem with this is they lost maybe another 30 euros revenue on our bill alone due to bad table service and zero upselling. And as a result our overallll experience was not good. Why could we not sit outside to eat and others were permitted? This remains unanswered. Table service...

Went here with my girlfriend for "brunch", ordered a burger and requested no baby gem, relish, blue cheese or gherkin, my girlfriend asked for the caesar salad sandwich and was told there was no chicken, she then ordered the grilled ham and cheese instead. The waitress that took our order did not bother to write any of it down. As a result I was given a burger with everything on it and my girlfriend was given the caesar salad sandwich she was told was unavailable. I informed one of the waiters that my burger was incorrect and requested that it be made again, he took it back and a minute later another waiter came back with a grilled ham and cheese and a burger again with everything on it, I said to him I just sent the burger back a minute ago and he tried telling me it was the new one to which I said it wasn't as it still had everything on it and I only just sent it back two seconds ago. Then another two minutes later the first waitress that took our order came back out with my burger, this time they had taken off what I had asked for but also taken off more items I wanted on the burger. She then informed us that the caesar salad sandwich my girlfriend had been given was intended for someone else and tried to guilt trip her into giving it back to serve to another customer even though the sandwich had already been sat with her for about ten minutes at this stage and they still planned to give it to another customer. I then began to eat my burger fed up at this stage of being given it wrong and immediately I could taste the gherkins that were just taken off the burger entirely, instead of remaking it they simply took everything off the burger they had already served me and gave me it back. I then told the waitress I was very disappointed when going to pay and was offered 50% off the burger alone. I also heard them tell multiple customers that they were closed for the next 3 minutes before they were serving dinner which was a complete joke they could have easily given them a seat and a menu rather than making them stand and wait. Altogether I was extremely disappointed with the service here and would recommend avoiding the spitjack limerick...

Extremely disappointing experience - avoid! We were taking my MIL out for brunch for her birthday and going to go to the restaurant next door (been many times, food and service excellent) they were full so said we would try here. It was myself, my husband, our 1 year old and my MIL. When we were given our table, we weren’t given menus and had to ask for them. The waitress was nice and friendly. We waited one full hour for the food to arrive. I asked the manger to check on our food after 45 minutes and she said the restaurant is extremely busy but she would check. She was rude and did not come back to give us an update on the food. Another table who came shortly after us, got up and walked out due to the wait time. Then the manager started going around to the tables saying they were busy and that’s why it was taking long, she didn’t come back to ours. The waitress came to check on us and I explained we had been waiting a long time and if we had known that this is how long it would be when busy we wouldn’t have come in as my daughter was now getting restless of having been in the highchair or our arms almost an hour. Again the waitress was pleasant and told the manager but it was obvious the manager didn’t care. While I appreciate being busy, it was around 11am and the restaurant should be prepared for this. It was near 12;30 once we got our food. The food was mediocre at best but we were starving at this point. My MIL has dietary restrictions and ordered 4 poached eggs, only 2 came. She requested avocado but was told she could only have guacamole even though what I ordered had plain avocado. It was all extremely disappointing. Nobody came to ask how our food was. We had to ask for more water. On paying, nobody asked how everything was and full price charged. I have worked in the service industry and an apology or even a complimentary tea or coffee would have taken some of the sourness away of the experience. Not cheap either, almost €50 for 3 breakfasts. Would not recommend and definitely...

I am a food delivery driver, and today I had the unpleasant experience of picking up an order at Spitjack restaurant in Limerick. When I arrived, I noticed that the access to the back entrance was partially blocked by a car, so I went to the restaurant’s reception to pick up the order. At the reception, the order I needed to collect was already on the counter. I showed the order number to the restaurant manager, but she was extremely rude and insisted that orders must be collected from the back of the restaurant. We got into an argument because my order was already prepared and right next to me. I informed the manager that the back entrance was inaccessible, filled with garbage, smelled bad due to urine, and had flies. I mentioned that this could contaminate the customer’s food and that having to wait for about 10 minutes for the order to be ready in such conditions could also be a health risk for me. The manager responded that it wasn’t her problem and that I had to collect the food from the back, even showing me a map with sarcasm on how to get there. When I went to the back entrance, I met a fellow delivery driver who had to place his bag on the ground, amidst the trash, to pick up the food. The worst part is the potential risk of customers getting sick from possibly contaminated food in the future.

It was a lovely rainy afternoon when my friends and I stepped into SpitJack. Everything was perfect from start to finish.

Lovely interior and staff. Food was cold and mediocre considering it’s quite pricey. Would come back for tea or coffee :) Edited review: Initially gave 3 stars but had to change to one star. Went for there for dinner wasn't really hungry so wanted to order something small but the waiter said only option was to pay 35 or 39 euros for the set menu and no option to order an individual course. I ordered a salad and a fruit salad and paid 35 euros which seems like an obscene amount to pay for it. Usually set menus are meant to offer some sort of discount but eating in this restaurant was extortionate. The same salad is on deliveroo for 14.95 so I'd recommend ordering that way to save money. The staff were lovely but a bit overbearing as there was too many of them and the place was almost empty, so they were constantly coming up to us and checking if we were alright. I don't blame them as they were probably bored but maybe if the prices were more reasonable the place wouldn't be so dead. The food is okay but definitely too expensive for what you get, Lunchtime is a lot more reasonably priced but I would avoid this place for dinner.
