I visited The Old Granary yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed with the overall experience – particularly with the service and communication from the restaurant.
To begin with, booking for more than 8 people was needlessly difficult. The website advised calling for larger groups, but despite trying to ring the restaurant three times throughout the day, no one answered. I resorted to emailing, clearly explaining it was for a birthday celebration, requesting to change the booking to 10 people and asking for a cosy corner with confirmation. I received a response the following day – just one poorly written sentence without a full stop, simply saying the booking was changed to 10. No greeting, no apology, no confirmation tone – not what I’d expect from a professional establishment.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was extremely hot and stuffy. We had to ask for fans to be turned on, and even then, the temperature remained uncomfortably high. What made matters worse was the overly pushy approach from the waiter. Within the first 10 minutes of sitting down – before I even had my drink – I was questioned about a guest who hadn’t yet arrived. I explained they were running late, but the waiter continued pressuring us to order quickly and reminded us that we could only stay until 7 or 7:15pm. He even suggested I send the menu to my friend so they could place an order by phone, which I found completely inappropriate and intrusive.
What should have been a relaxed and celebratory meal felt rushed and uncomfortable from the very beginning. It’s disheartening to be having these awkward conversations on your birthday before the drinks even arrive. To top it off, when the bill came – which totaled around €500 – the same waiter pointed at my partner and told him he needed to pay the bill. I found this extremely presumptuous and unprofessional. That kind of comment is simply out of line.
When the guest who was running late finally arrived, the waiter attempted some odd and poorly received jokes – including suggesting she drink her sauce through a straw. It just added to the discomfort of an already disappointing evening.
All in all, I’ve never been treated this way at a restaurant, especially not when we were spending a significant amount of money. The entire experience was lacking in professionalism and hospitality. Sadly, I wouldn’t return, and I can’t recommend The Old Granary based...
Read moreUnfortunately we didn't enjoy our recent visit to this restaurant. Firstly the restaurant was busy and on the plus side the staff were helpful and the service was efficient.. But for us the food was a big let down! The duck starter was confusing and just didn't work. There was very little duck and loads of fat. Then it was covered with an extremely strong chili dressing which was breath taking but not in a good way! The garnish under the accompanying egg was tasteless. Cost €14.00 I expressed my views to the waiter who cleared the starter plates but it fell on deaf ears. The tempura prawn starter was a little better. The main course streak was well seasoned but disappointingly it wasn't hot and not helped by being served on a cold plate. But after the non reaction I got around my comments about the starter I didn't complain. The other main was monkfish and prawn. At time of ordering it was requested that the sauce be served on the side but the dish was still served covered with a sauce! A very small dish of mixed greens accompanied the dish. More cauliflower was requested and provided. The roast potatoes were mediocre. The chocolate delice dessert we shared was just OK a bit child like in its presentation. Total bill including bottle of Rioja €32 and two coffees was €135.40. We were asked had we enjoyed the food and we again explained our disappointment with the duck starter and this waiter thanked us for our feedback. I wasn't really sure how serious he took our comments. Overall the food we were served was not worth what we paid for it. Not surprisingly we won't be going back to 10 West Bisto and certainly couldn't...

One must not visit 10 West without surrendering to the seductive allure of the Beef Short Rib. Served alongside Madeira Local Greens and a velvety Pomme Puree, it is nothing short of a symphony on a plate. The beef, cooked with such finesse that it yields to the slightest touch of the fork, bathes languidly in its own juices. It is an unparalleled gustatory experience, a testament to Chef Long's culinary prowess, and a dish that will haunt your palate long after the last morsel has been savored.
I look forward to going...
