The Grattan Bar in Waterford is an absolute gem that exceeded our expectations in every way possible. What initially began as a pit stop for a restroom break and a quick pint of beer after a long drive, turned into an unforgettable dining experience thanks to the warm welcome we received from Melisa.

From the moment we stepped foot into the bar, Melisa greeted us with genuine excitement and hospitality, making us feel like old friends rather than mere customers. His passion for his establishment was palpable, and it didn't take long for us to decide to stay for a meal and soak in the inviting atmosphere.

And let's talk about the food - exceptional doesn't even begin to cover it. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared, making it some of the best we had throughout our entire time in Ireland. It was clear that Melisa and his wife Martha poured their hearts into every aspect of their bar, ensuring that each customer feels welcomed and right at home.

But perhaps the most memorable part of our visit was the impromptu sing-along at the end of our meal, complete with lollipops as a reward for completing our dishes. It was a hilarious and heartwarming moment that had us both in stitches, and while we're sad we couldn't capture it on camera, it's a memory we'll cherish forever.

In conclusion, the Grattan Bar is an absolute must-visit in Waterford. Whether you're stopping by for a quick drink or settling in for a meal, you're guaranteed to be met with warmth, laughter, and exceptional food. We can't wait to return and experience it...

You read these fantastic reviews about places and when you arrive there they don't for you stand up. Well in the case of this bar restaurant they most certainly do. I ate there for three nights and had three different dishes. Each one was excellent and you certainly won't be leaving the place hungry. Everything is freshly cooked. I had the roast beef on the 1st night which was excellent with a large helping of mash potatoes topped with tender beef slices. A good selection of vegetables and a couple of roast potatoes thrown in for good measure, the chicken curry on the 2nd night served with beautiful light Basmati rice. The curry sauce was lovely and the chicken was lovely and tender. I would have loved a few vegetables to have been included in the dish but the dish came only with chicken. It did come with a large piece of Bhakri bread. Also you could have this dish with half rice and half chips. Their chips are only to die for. On the last day I went for the Striploin steak with mushrooms and onions, a generous basket of their lovely chips, and a medium size beautifully cooked steak. The pepper sauce was served in a separate jug. Martha and other staff members were lovely and had a word for everyone. The place is spotless and if you have food allergies this definitely is the place for you as they will do their very best to cater for your needs. I am joining their many 5 star ratings as it certainly deserves each...

I'm a local to Waterford and some how never knew about the Grattan, for my job with the EU I travel all over Europe and ate at many places but I never realised I had a gem at home, all the 5 star reviews make most people hesitant like "how can that be possible" but it can! the second I walked in I was greeted like they knew me and it's clear customer service really matters to them, checking if I was okay and if my food was good asking me if I was local etc etc, plus where else can you get 10 chicken tenders and chips in a massive bowl for around 12€ ? Their cider also tasted really fresh, there is honestly just a great atmosphere you don't feel pressured to finish and leave like some places and the staff would prefer to have you there and have a chat, and when I was leaving a few English lads stopped in on their way to cork and they were talking to each other and even said that although they never planned to stop in Waterford they were glad they did because they loved the look of the Grattan, Waterford seems to be on the up and up lately and I hope that brings more locals and tourists to the Grattan seeing as it's in the new cultural quarter because it really deserves it, I will 100% be...

What a fantastic neighborhood pub! From the moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed with such warmth and hospitality—it genuinely felt like being embraced by family. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with a friendly buzz of locals that made the experience feel authentic and special. The food was absolutely top-notch. We ordered the Irish stew and a prawn salad, and both dishes exceeded our expectations. The stew was hearty and flavorful, the kind that warms you from the inside out, and the prawn salad was fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly balanced. We've been driving around Ireland for the past few days, exploring different towns and trying out various pubs along the way. Without a doubt, this has been the best one we've visited. It stood out not only for the quality of the food but also for its genuine, down-to-earth charm. Unlike some of the more touristy spots we've encountered, this pub felt real—a true local gem. If you're looking to experience an authentic Irish pub with exceptional food and a welcoming vibe, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!
