TERRIBLE. New service staff is cheating.

This used to be a great place. We used to dine at both 1868 and the adjacent JLM (a restaurant of the same owner) since 2017, and really enjoyed both the gourmet food and atmosphere. Since the new staff got employed here, however, it's becoming awful.

First of all, the new day shift waitress was extremely rude with valued repeat customers. Every time she works with embittered face and makes inappropriate comments.

And on top of that, something fishy is going on. This new waitress randomly charges twice as much as the evening shift does, for exactly the same dishes (the bills are on file). And it's not the first time.

Apparently, she's pocketing the difference.

When we first asked to call the chef to find out what happens, the chef came, but this waitress with a thieving look quickly ordered him to go back to the kitchen. It's suspicious that a waitress tells chef what to do.

And when we eventually asked the day shift manager to take care of the issue, he started defending her like crazy, and even shouted at us. It looks like he is getting a cut of his waitress' cheating income (she also works as a cashier). Both the waitress and her shift manager even refused to tell their names and official positions.

We've already filed a complaint along with a proof at the Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce and Municipality.

The owners of this place should carefully examine what happens and deal with those cheaters. That's intolerable in our Israel's capital. While the new mayor of Jerusalem - Moshe Leon and his team are working hard to make our city clean and trustworthy, such incidents with local businesses, on the contrary, damage the reputation of the city.

On the other hand, the evening shift (and the tall waitress) has been very polite and professional. No issues whatsoever. And the chef is awesome.

With best wishes, A Jewish family...

The experience is nothing short of spectacular. Service is cheerful, gracious, well-informed and most attentive. And the food- Oh, the food. From imaginative cocktails to a very drinkable selection of wines to a most creative and delicious gourmet menu ... This is great place for an anniversary dinner or to impress a date. For the quality of the food, pricing quite good. There is a range of options. I had the tasting menu, the most expensive option, which set me back 365 shekel, but comes with all sorts of surprise extras that the Chef throws in as free surprises throughout the meal. It provides a real taste of the Chef's ability. Presentation was incredible. Exquisite and unfailingly creative. This is not a place for those in a rush, because you will want to linger. The music selection is eclectic and mostly enjoyable, if one has the bandwidth pay attention while preoccupied with the main event - the food. Not just a dinner, but an experience. The atmosphere is intimate, as the restaurant is divided into a warren of small rooms. Reservations a must. There was one brief, awkward moment when we heard a large crash and very angry shouting coming from the kitchen ... However, there was no break in service from the unflappable staff and the dessert served afterwards as a gift, with tea made from fresh (not dried) herbs more than made up for any distraction. Dinner AND a show rolled into one singular evening. And yes,...

Restaurant of high cuisine This restaurant is among “must to go” places in Jerusalem. Location. Located on king David street in the very heart of the holy city 🌆 Very close to the Old town of JLM and all sacred places. Exterior. Signboard and entrance do not attract and describe the beauty inside. Peculiarities. The Restaurant is open from 18:00 till night and almost always full. Booking in advance is recommended. Very low chance to find a table “from the street”. Interior. Very welcoming, cosy and nice. 2 zones: outside, yard zone; and indoor section. Service. Client-oriented, professional. Chef 👨‍🍳 creates extremely delicious 😋 dishes, and waiters professionally present them, knowing what drinks 🥤 and wines 🍷 to advise. Compliment from chef is usually served. Parking 🅿️. No particular place devoted for parking. To save nerves and time 🕰️ taxi 🚕 is recommended to get to the restaurant. No devoted space...

True luxury dining. I found myself in a warm stony interior @ 1868 in Jerusalem. Service exceptional - surroundings are warm and cosy. The food — outstanding. Rabbanut Yerushayim. The restaurant is suitable for everyone of every level of faith for a fine dining restaurant. From the little olive tree brought to your table with olives and small nuts to nibble on as the meal Is prepared to the perfect wine matching for each course - this is an experience not to be missed. After your main course, you can choose to have your dinner at their Zuta Bar where you can choose from a wide variety of cocktails to go with your amazing dessert. If you go because of this message, feel free to tell Chef Yankele that I recommended his place to you - it's a real pleasure talking with the Chef:) It is with great pleasure and a full and happy stomach that I recommend 1868 and it's Zuta Bar. Kind Regards, Jeremy Weiss Concierge Manager King David Hotel

The food is very good and impressive for Kosher food, and we enjoyed 3/4 of the dishes we ordered. The bresaola starter was wonderful and very well balanced in flavor and texture. The duck main was fantastically sweet and savory, almost making it a candy dish that’s hard to stop eating. The Wagyu Denver cut was like smoked beefy butter, an absolute pleasure to taste. The only dish we were sourly disappointed in was the ceviche which was entirely one note: acidic. It direly needed more salt and sweetness to balance out the flavor, and we were surprised that the same palette that created the bresaola starter let this dish leave the kitchen. All in all a pleasant experience, albeit a little expensive.
