How to ruin a birthday family dinner in 3 steps.
YuliaTLV, beginning April 2022, chill Friday night, and a day after Tel-Aviv's terror attack.
A reservation made few weeks before to Yulia TLV resulted in "your table is not ready yet, you would have to wait". OK... we understand... not great, not terrible. 10 minutes later - table found. Not set, just found. Btw, they did call that morning to confirm our reservation.
Starting to order... only to be immediately hit with the waitress's "this dish is unavailable today" 🤦♂️ Next option - same answer! ahhh... our frustration grows but we are determined to continue with our modest celebration.
Almost time for coffee. We are in midst of a discussion about geopolitics and the Ukraine situation (in Russian). Suddenly, a junior Ukrainian waitress makes a break-and-entry into our conversation. While clearing a table nearby she just felt like she had to. And not a polite comment or expressing her disagreement to what was said, no. But an anger-driven sarcasm flavored with cynic "yes, and also there are dinosaurs walking in Ukraine", or "yes, the novel coronavirus was made in Ukraine". Our attempts to disarm the spiraling conflict were futile.
"I won't be handling their table" - was her dramatic quit shot to her supervisor. We seemed to have failed her expectations about society and propaganda-driven beliefs.
Our first time to this restaurant some months ago was enjoyable. This was our second and less so. We have experienced unprofessionalism not once in Israeli restaurants. However, this time YuliaTLV has set...
Read moreI had a really great experience at Yulia in the Tel Aviv Port and honestly think it deserves 5 stars. The location itself is already a win – right on the water, with a beautiful open view and that unique port atmosphere that feels both lively and relaxing. It’s the kind of place where you can come for lunch or dinner, but also just to sit with a coffee and enjoy the sea breeze.
The food was definitely a highlight. We tried both fish and meat dishes and everything came out fresh and nicely cooked. The fish especially stood out – perfectly grilled, tender, and seasoned just right. It felt like the ingredients were really good quality, not overdone, just clean and flavorful. I also appreciated that there are enough options on the menu to make everyone happy without it being overwhelming.
One thing I absolutely have to recommend is the affogato. It’s such a simple idea – good espresso poured over ice cream – but here it was done so well. The coffee was rich, the ice cream creamy, and together it just worked beautifully as a dessert. Speaking of coffee, theirs in general was very good, and it makes sense why people mention it in other reviews.
The service also made a difference. Everyone we interacted with was polite, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being too much. It gave the whole meal a comfortable, welcoming feeling.
All in all, Yulia is the kind of place I’d happily come back to. Tasty food, good coffee, a really nice vibe, and excellent service – highly...
Read moreBeautiful setting with terrace overlooking the sea. The service was attentive and quick. We were a table of four, three of whom are lactose-intolerant. This often limits them to a choice of 1-2 items from a menu, but here they had multiple options and even excellent desserts! We shared a good focaccia bread, for first course we had a very good ceviche and a fabulous sashimi, fried cauliflower in sweet chili-tahini sauce (which was an amazing combo) and an eggplant carpacchio. For main course we had one spaghetti Bolognese (good but uninspiring), excellent butter free moules frittes, fish kebabs with a good sauce and an AMAZING prawn tortellini in lobster bisque-sauce (which was simply extraordinary!!!). As lactose intolerant individuals we are used to not having any dessert, but to our surprise the waitress informed us that not only did she have a special fruit salad, but also had a fresh and special fruit salad and a vegan afugato variation, with vegan campari-like sauce on a red-grapefruit. A very good French muscadet paired well with the food. To summarize: we had a...
