Today, my family and I had the pleasure of visiting the breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi. The stunning scenery and the warm hospitality of most of the people we encountered made our day truly special. However, our visit was unfortunately marred by an unpleasant experience with three staff working at a particular coffee shop.
When we first entered the coffee shop, these three staff greeted us with nothing but curt stares. Hoping to break the ice, I initiated a polite greeting. They then asked, in rather broken English, whether we wanted to sit at a table or have our coffee over the counter. I struggled to understand the first question due to their limited English, so another staff member repeated it in equally poor English. Fortunately, I managed to grasp their meaning through context, but it became clear that they were growing increasingly impatient with my difficulty in understanding them.
As I was taking a moment to decide on an option, they pressed me with the same question twice more in rapid succession, leaving me no time to respond. Eventually, I chose to sit at a table, only to be immediately asked, with noticeable irritation, whether we preferred to sit indoors or outside. When I replied that I had no preference, one of them rudely snapped, "Move out of my way!" Feeling pushed out, my family and I chose to sit outside, only to notice the three women glancing our way with mocking expressions and seemingly sarcastic remarks directed at us.
When it came time to pay, I approached the counter, where they again made what appeared to be disparaging comments in Italian, which I couldn't fully understand. Frustrated, I asked, "How could you be so rude?" several times, but they simply continued to speak in their native language in what felt like a condescending tone. To top it off, as I was leaving, one of them muttered badly loudly enough for me to hear.
What struck me most was not just the poor behavior of one individual but the fact that all three, seemingly staff in their 20s or 30s, participated in this appalling conduct. None of them attempted to moderate the situation or show even a modicum of professionalism.
I am not one to leave reviews lightly, nor do I take pleasure in criticizing others. I understand that perspectives can be subjective and that reviews can have serious repercussions for a business. However, I believe it’s important to ensure that Amalfi’s charm and the kindness of its people are not overshadowed by the actions of a few thoughtless individuals.
To the staff who worked at the coffee shop today: you likely remember me well. Please remember that, as representatives of Amalfi, your actions contribute to how visitors perceive this beautiful town. I hope you reflect on your behavior and strive to treat future customers with the respect they deserve. Let’s not let the effort and kindness of your fellow residents be undermined by such...
Read moreWent here after a great experience at Pasticceria Pansa Amalfi across the street a few days before.
But this gelato shop needs some serious lessons in customer service.
Asked if we could get some gelatos, drinks and be seated outside. We wanted to see the gelato flavour options and informed it was around the other side where we can choose.
I asked for a broiche with vanilla flavour gelato, an expresso and if it could be given to a table outside whilst my wife was still deciding on her choice. And I was abruptly told that we couldn't sit down at a table as I was ordering from the side. Even though they told me to look at the flavours from the side.
The rude attitude and poor communication skills of the staff member who was dealing with me meant we didn't bother any further items. And this pointless debate went on for a few minutes as she insisted that we couldn't sit down despite all the seats/ tables were free.
A couple waiting in the queue behind me heard this ridiculous argument by this very inexperienced young staff member and they walked away in disgust. A few minutes later, the young staff member said she would bring it to me at a table, which I declined.
The gelato was nice, but they lost out on us ordering more items by how poorly handling the situation.
There are lots of gelato places nearby, which are all pretty much the same to be honest. It's definitely one I won't be going back to.
This gelato left a bitter taste...
Read moreI knew gelato was Italy's gift to the world and usually Florence (the birthplace) and Sicily are the queens for these amazing dessert. Little did I realize this tiny little coastal town that is mostly geared towards tourists trap would have the real deal of delicious gelato!
When you first enter the town area from the port and intercity bus stops, ignore alllll the fake gelato places and you can spot them easily with their neon colours and towering piles exposed to the air. Andrea Pansa has their gelato done right... sealed up in metal containers and only using milk and real ingredients. The owner or store manager was so pleasant and let us taste their many flavours.
All incredible ... hazelnut, pistachio, lemon, espresso, chocolate, vanilla with chocolate shavings, and many more. It is so hard to chose but their lemon, espresso, pistachio, and my personal favourite Della Nonna Adrianna (chocolate pearls with crunchy cereal in a ricotta gelato). The lemon is another winner as it uses the Amalfi lemon which is bright and sweet that cuts through the creaminess.
I was so shocked on vibrant everything tasted and pure to the ingredients. If I could order cups of everything I would... and probably would if given a...
