Convivio — Restaurant in Arezzo

Wow! Arezzo is beautiful and worth visiting. In my opinion it would be worth visiting just to eat at this restaurant! I had an amazing lunch…from the friendliness of the waitress, through the interesting menu, to the dishes themselves - one word: QUALITY. Quality invention and execution. The dishes were not too big, not too small and clearly crafted with love. I have been to Italy many times, and have spent the bulk of the last 4 weeks here….also, in Melbourne (Australia) where I live, there are some very fine Italian restaurants, but this was special. So special, that towards the end of my lunch I booked for dinner! (I only usually have one solid meal per day, but I made an exception this time, and so glad I did as dinner was equally high quality and a very enjoyable experience). As we say….do...

I like Convivio, but it is a flawed restaurant. The biggest issue is that it took 45 minutes betwen courses, which ruined the flow of the meal and is unacceptable in any case. The waiter never brought us wine for the mains. The tartare was underseasoned, and both the rabbit and the pork were overcooked and tough. The plates do not seem to have been inspected by the chef prior to service.

Having said all of that, the boar ragu pasta was extraordinary, and the gnocchi dish was excellent. Both were unusual and interesting. The wine that we got was delicious and very reasonably priced. The restaurant sits in a lovely square, with nice outdoor seating.

Simply put, there is talent here that is flawed by lack of discipline and technical issues. I hope...

Had an amazing spontaneous lunch at Convivio. Elia, which was both our chef and waiter, was extremely helpful and kind. All our requests were answered professionally and with a smile: starting from paying attention to food allergies and preparing food for the kids first, to questions about wine and the food - we’ve been taken care of in the bast possible manner. The food was top quality, delicious and fresh. The range of wines offered was wide and diverse. Speghettino with butter and truffle was one of the BEST pastas we’ve ever had! We highly recommend stopping by for a dinner or lunch. Great food and high value for your money...
