Caffè del Ferrarese — Restaurant in Bari

This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in Bari. At Caffè del Ferrarese we waited 30 minutes just to get the menu – and in the end I had to go and ask for it myself because nobody paid any attention to us. Then we waited another 30 minutes for someone to take our order, but no one ever came. After one full hour of being completely ignored, we simply got up and left.

The place was also dirty, and I even saw flies on the food displayed in the counter – absolutely unacceptable.

On top of that, there were beggars constantly walking around the terrace, disturbing the clients, and the staff did absolutely nothing to handle the situation or ask them to leave. It felt completely unsafe and uncomfortable.

The staff was careless, the service was non-existent, and hygiene was shocking. Definitely a place to avoid. With so many good restaurants in Bari, this one is a complete...

I've experienced and observed, frankly the worst service I've got in a restaurant ever. To go over a meal it took us 2 hours, but 1:30 of those was waiting for food and/or service. The waiter simply neglected some tables and spent her time chatting her colleague behind the counter. All the food came lukewarm at best, even the coffee (it took 20 minutes to get 2 espressos). Bella. Piazza Ferrarese deve il proprio nome a un commerciante di Ferrara, Stefano Fabri o Fabbro, proprietario di diversi immobili nella stessa piazza, che nel Seicento si trasferì a Bari e lasciò il proprio segno anche nella costruzione della loggia del Palazzo del Sedile. Affacciata sul lungomare Imperatore Augusto, di fronte al porto vecchio, la piazza è delimitata sulla destra dal palazzo dell’ex Mercato del pesce, costruito nel 1840, e dalla rampa di accesso a via Venezia; sulla sinistra dall’attuale Sala Murat, ex deposito di derrate alimentari, e dalle absidi della chiesa della Vallisa; le fa da sfondo invece il palazzo Starita, edificato sui resti di un antico Arsenale. Ha sempre rappresentato uno dei punti di accesso alla città vecchia, che attraverso viuzze, vicoli e larghi, si estende dall’asse piazza Ferrarese-piazza Mercantile fino al castello normanno-svevo. Durante i recenti lavori di restauro, che hanno interessato non soltanto la piazza ma anche gli edifici circostanti, è venuto alla luce un breve tratto dell’antica via Appia-Traiana, costruita dai Romani nei primi anni del II secolo d.C. Oggi, animata da locali sempre molto frequentati, rappresenta insieme a piazza Mercantile, una meta obbligata della movida barese soprattutto notturna. Suggestiva e romantica la vista di sera dell’illuminato lungomare barese di cui si può godere dalla piazza e dalla rampa di accesso a via Venezia.
