Take the Funicolare per città alta Bergamo, and walk to Piazza Vecchia, and stop and have lunch or dinner at Trattoria Sant' Ambroeus. It is an example of the love and care the Italian people have for food. Truly the best meal I had after traveling a month in the Lake region. Although the Veal Milanese looked tempting from across another table, I ordered the Veal fillet on Taleggio cheese fondue and artichoke. Simply amazing. Everyone was quietly enjoying and reluctantly sharing their dishes. Burrata, polenta, veal with tuna sauce, pasta with bacon, each dish was delicious. After the meal, make sure to walk through Piazza Vecchia to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore to see the pride, wealth and artistry of the people of Bergamo. A truly wonderful day. 👨‍🍳

The casconcelli (ravioli) della casa is the best I have ever tasted. I've lived in Italy for over 3 years, so I've had a lot, but none like this. The bacon was crispy and salty, the filling had a bit of a sweetness to it that I couldn't quite place. Maybe a honey toasted nut, or something. Whatever they put in them they are incredible. My wife got the giant veal, so even though the ravioli is more of a starter, I was full after nibbling on her meal too. To top it off we absolutely loved the pistachio creme brulee. I didn't want it to stop.

Set in the Venetian side of the central square of the old walled upper town of Bergamo, so incredibly atmospheric. My raviolis in a creamy black truffle sauce were perfectly prepared with the delicate mushroom taste that only truffles can bring. The veal steak with more truffle was also tender and tasty, and the meat was well complimented by the sauce. If you are visiting Bergamo it is worth planning a trip to this trattoria and enjoying a well prepared meal as the sun comes down on the Cite Alta.

Z czystym sumieniem polecam to miejsce każdemu, kto szuka autentycznej włoskiej kuchni w mistrzowskim wydaniu. Sant Ambroeus to smak, klasa i pasja – w najlepszym wydaniu! 🇺🇸 A Culinary Gem in the Heart of Bergamo – Sant Ambroeus Delivers Excellence

During my stay in Bergamo, I had the pleasure of dining at Sant Ambroeus – and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm and elegant atmosphere that blends Italian charm with a sense of refined hospitality.

The food? Absolutely outstanding. A special mention goes to the tagliatelle with mushrooms – the aroma alone was enough to make your mouth water from across the room. The dish was bursting with flavor, made with the freshest ingredients, and perfectly cooked pasta that melted in the mouth. Every bite was pure delight – rich, fragrant, and flawlessly balanced.

What made the evening even more special was the impeccable service. Attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming – the staff made us feel at home. And to our great surprise, we were personally attended to by the head chef himself, who not only brought the dishes to the table but also shared his passion and insights into the menu. It’s rare to see such dedication and personal touch.

Sant Ambroeus is more than just a restaurant – it’s a culinary experience that celebrates the very best of Italian cuisine. If you’re visiting Bergamo and want to enjoy authentic food prepared with heart and expertise, this place is a must.

Highly recommended – I can’t...

At first place I would like to say it would be great to share some possitive experience. In this case I´m affraid it is not possible. When we arrived in the eventig into the almost empty restaurant with three waiters watching and waiting and we wanted to order some drinks for us ( three adults and three kids ) we were told they do not provide drinks without eating in the place. I obviously came across such manners before, and it is certainly more common in the places taking advantage from being situated in the nice spots, still I do not think it is acceptable, not just from mathematic point of view ( earning 50 euros is certainly better than W&W for 0 ) but more importantly I think it is lack of respect for the customer wich is not admissible to me. PS: I think your answer says more than I ever could....
