Osteria Le Sette Chiese — Restaurant in Bologna

What to say? Best meal in Italy, for many reasons. First, the food. The tortellini in brodo is the best in town. And I’m not joking — we ate at many well-rated restaurants, and this broth was clearly the best. It tasted homemade (it even looked homemade), and as we found out later, it absolutely is made with love — and so are all of the individual tortellini. The tagliatelle with ragu is delicate, elegant and absolutely delicious. The tagliatelle at other places all taste the same, but here, it is like mama made it for you.

The pasta was outstanding, and the secondi were unique. I never saw these dishes elsewhere: the slow cooked ribs, braised (with rosemary, I think) until they fall off the bone — it was perfection. Full of flavor. And then we had the stuffed chicken — which was outstanding. It was moist, flavorful, unique, and evoked the tortellini flavors. A masterpiece.

Finally, the house wine is amazing! Grab a 1 liter jug and relax.

And finally: the service. We had a wonderful night thanks to the amazing Beppe. He’s a gentleman. He made us feel like we were in an Italian family’s home. And the same for the amazing chef!! She was a delight! So friendly, so welcoming, and so talented.

EDIT: I gave the restaurant another try this month and had a much better experience without any issues. The quality of the food is still very high and the prices fair. This time the waitress was an extremely charming and welcoming lady. We felt very comfortable this time and had some friendly smalltalk with her. She really makes a difference! Maybe the last time they had a bad day or something, I don’t know. Anyway I’ll forget about that and only rate my last visit with 5 starts.
