Wish I could give this restaurant more stars! We came across restaurant caccio by chance after a long, 18 hour travel day. We were tired, hungry, unsure of what to expect and dropped in on a whim. We were fortunate enough to land a table and much to our pleasure- Restaurant Caccio ended up being our favorite restaurant in all of Bologna. I had not come across this restaurant in my research but it is a true hidden gem! We loved this restaurant so much so- that we returned on our last night and had dinner again! We were greeted by Salvatore and cared for by he and the rest of the team on both occasions. Their customer service and table side manner is exceptional and every food and wine suggestion Salvatore made was brilliant. The food was among the best we had (which is something to say as we ate A LOT!) We can HIGHLY recommend the tortellini en brodo, the spaghetti with mussels and whatever they are offering as an evening special. On our last night we ordered the evening special as our main dish (braised beef cheek in red wine with mashed potato) and it might have been our best bite in bologna. (I will dream of that meal for the rest of my life. They should totally add that special to the permanent menu!) To say that each and every plate that touched our table was exceptional in every way is an understatement. We are happily expecting our first baby and I was initially bummed thinking I would be missing out on all of the delicious Italian wines but Salvatore offered a non alcoholic wine that was absolutely delicious (and the only non alcoholic wine we encountered on our trip!) Highly, highly, highly recommend...
Read moreWe noticed this gem from the main walkway and instantly I was drawn to it. We sat outside and ordered a bubbles and beer. Started with prosciutto and mortadella plate for our lunch as well as the tuna tartare. Both were excellent, however the tomato onion jam with the fried bread on the prosciutto platter was a highlight. Entrees were spaghetti with fennel pesto and mussels. Smooth, creamy and delightful. Tagliatelle with ragu was very good especially because Ive had it other places and this apt was tops. Both entrees were joined by Chablis and Sangiovese. Dessert was yogurt mousse and gigs. Very good. Finished with espresso and meringue and cookie. This spot deserves all the accolades it...
Read moreNot sure how this restaurant made it to top 18 of Bologna. No ambience, very dull interior. Raw shrimp, scampi - nice, but what can be wrong with it as long as it’s fresh. White fish tartar - tiny and now sure why comes with kiwi. Taste is ok, had to add salt, so somewhat not to write home about. I order monkfish with asparagus. Monkish was nice - nothing special, just a nice piece of baked monkfish, simple. But asparagus…they literally chopped 1 raw stem and called it garnish. Risotto seemed to be fine. Cotlets Bolonese seemed ok, but again very plain and non inviting. It was garnished with 2 tiny scoops of...
