I was at Bologna with my family last month and we decided to eat at this Tratoria. We chose the place because it seems to be nice and not so expensive as restaurants. When we got there, and the attendent came to ask our orderes, ( maybe she is the owner of the place), she was extremelly rude with my mom. After me, my brother and my father asked for our food, my mom told her that, she didn´t wanted to eat anything, beacause she wasn´t feeling very well. At that moment, the attendent laughed at us and told her she HAD TO order something because she was already paying for the "coperto" (wich is €3/ person). And that "coperto" , is only one little basket of mini-breads. My mom felt unconfortable by that situation and obligated to order something. Even if you have rules, or "correct ways" to order and behave at your restaurant, is always good to remember that you work at a touristic country, city and place. The minimum you can do is being nice with your own costumers, that, by the way, are paying for what they´re consuming. So disapointing! The way she behaved was like the place had Michellan stars, and at the end we had to go to a "cassa" to pay for it. The food wasn´t bad, but also nothing special to pay what it costed, speccialy after that treatment. I really wish it...
Read moreTucked away in a charming little alley, Trattoria Gianni has a certain hidden appeal — but sadly, that’s where the charm ends.
There’s little signage at the entrance, no clear indication that reservations are required, and no English version of the website to help visitors figure things out in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty. We asked politely for a table for two, but were abruptly turned away with a sharp “No, no!” — no explanation, no courtesy. The woman at the front (possibly the owner) seemed to be selecting customers based on whether they were regulars or locals.
We’re used to small, fully booked places and we completely understand when that’s the case. But this wasn’t that. It simply felt unwelcoming — an unpleasant experience that left us with the impression that tourists are not welcome here. If reservations are mandatory, it would be helpful (and respectful) to clearly state it at the entrance, especially in...
Read moreWe had a great dinner at Trattoria da Gianni. Fantastic service, we are not Italian speakers, but every thing was explained in English. Being five adults we shared 4 antipasti: mousse of mortadella and Parmesan served like strawberry ice cream and white chocolate, burratini and beef tartare marinated at the table to our taste. For main courses we all had Tagliatelle Al Ragu (Bolognese). We shared 3 excellent desserts. When we asked for details the chef came to our table and explained the difference in recipes between crème caramel and panna cotta. One of the best experiences we have had in an Italian restaurant, clearly a 5/5 experience. Including two bottles of the best local wine on the winelist, water, 2 x beer, 3 x coffee and 2 x grappa we payed only 52€ per person. That’s a...
