TL/DR: Gorgeous swimming views, bring towels/hat/snacks, huge service/staffing issues, use the credit for drinks / don’t eat here and you’ll have a good time.
I came here for an event organized by friends. I paid €115 for the sun-bed (with the €60 drink/food credit included). Note: an umbrella costs extra. I arrived and left on foot: steep but manageable if you are in relatively OK physical shape ( / if you have mobility issues, consider a water-taxi to/from the venue). I arrived around 11:30 with no wait to get in, but ten minutes later the rest of our group was stuck in the wait that took longer than an hour for them to get in & seated. First red flag of staffing/service issues because the bottleneck was easily avoidable if they had more than one person handling seating.
I brought my own towel, hat, sunscreen, fruits, snacks, water in a bag. Plan was to have a big breakfast at home, then spend 11am to 5pm at Da Luigi swimming/drinking/tanning/chatting, then have a big dinner afterwards once back in town, making me only depend on the staff to 1) get seated and 2) use my drink credit three times for cocktails (each cocktail was €20; they were fine / nothing exceptional).
The real reason to pay the €115 is to have access to the best closed off ocean / swimming views of Capri: you’re directly next to the Faraglioni, the water is amazing, with gorgeous colors, clear and not too salty (I was stunned to learn I could open my eyes swimming underwater without it stinging).
Note: There is no lifeguard whatsoever so please only go in the water if you are with at least one comfortable swimmer, as the waters can get choppy and the 2 entrance/exit ladders are not the easiest to use for those with any mobility issues or weak swimmers. (I am a PADI Divemaster, and trained lifeguard, and I had to help a friend manage a minor panic attack in the water as she was scared of the environment).
Special honorable mention to the bartender who did an excellent job handling the stress of being completely overwhelmed with a job that really ought to be two or three people, given the size of the restaurant and the amount of sun-beds downstairs. During the lunch service rush he had a line of people from the sunbeds ordering cocktails, while trying to make the restaurant drink orders simultaneously. He was going as fast as he could, but some customers were getting visibly frustrated at their delays, and I wished for everyone that he had more help behind the bar. He was very friendly with me and my group, even remembering my drink order by the second visit. Grazie to you, bartender!
Conclusion: That swimming area plus 3 decent cocktails for 5-6 hours makes for a lovely day at the ocean to suntan/swim/read/drink/chat, but I totally understand the 1-star reviews given how chaotically awful the service overall is & the quality of the food seems to be. (Unfortunate given the uniquely...
Read moreDaluigi’s location is, in principle, very charming but everything else, from service to hospitality, was just a disaster. It’s the most disappointing experience I’ve had on the island, and I say this as an Italian tourist living abroad, visiting Capri every summer.
The establishment seems to cater exclusively to a wealthy foreign clientele unfamiliar with Italian standards, capitalising on Instagram aesthetics while offering no substance. A very basic sunbed, without even a simple pillow, is priced at an extortionate €250, with a €60 “credit” redeemable under the umbrella or at the restaurant above. What does that get you? Five uninspired food options, one of which was a sad €30 bowl of fruit that looked quite literally like leftovers.
Being pregnant, I asked if something could be prepared upstairs to suit dietary needs and brought down. The answer? A flat-out no.
The beach staff are young and well-meaning, but clearly undertrained and unfit for a venue positioning itself as premium. Compared to places like Lido del Faro or Hotel Quisisana, the difference in professionalism and atmosphere is staggering.
To add insult to injury: – €10 to use a floating inflatable – Water that was dirty on arrival, with visible plastic floating - in Capri!! – No staff initiative to clean or manage the waterfront – Boats pulling in constantly, destroying any sense of peace or exclusivity
We left feeling genuinely cheated like we’d paid for the idea of Capri, and been handed the cheapest execution possible. If you’re looking for an authentic, curated experience, avoid this place - go to Riccio instead, prices are as high but you’re delivered excellence. This place is designed to just take your money and it’s harming Capri’s magic and hospitality. Avoid...
Read moreMy husband and I paid for VIP service at da Luigi. When we first got to the beach club, the lady at the front desk forgot to give us beach chair covers which we asked for about half way through the day as we didn’t realize they gave them to everyone. The gentleman leading us to our beach chairs was extremely rude as well. When we got to our section, the beach chairs were flimsy and cheap. The server had to put a piece of a metal under it so it would stop wobbling. When we received our bottle of champagne, it was the incorrect bottle which was 15 Euros cheaper than the one promised on the website under VIP. I asked my husband to double check the bottle as the couple next to us had something different. Sure enough they purposely gave the wrong bottle. Also, there are boats every 15 minutes in and out of the area that you swim in. This makes the water quite rough and hard to swim. It’s loud and not relaxing. The vip section also has regular beach chairs less than a foot behind it. You don’t get the space you are paying for and are able to hear people’s conversations clearly. Our package also included lunch which we couldn’t make a reservation for in advance, it was based off of the availability that day. We were given the option of 12:30pm and 3:30pm. We had arrived at 11am and had to leave at 4:30pm, the times given were not ideal. We ended up asking them at 2pm if we can squeeze in and they let us, however there should be an option to reserve especially if you are paying through the nose. The food itself was mediocre, didn’t love it or hate it, but I wouldn’t go back. Service and amenities were beyond terrible, only saving grace...
