AVOID this place at all costs. We had spent the day between Positano and Capri which are both notoriously expensive places so by the time it came to get our 11pm ferry we just needed somewhere to stop in for a drink and a snack. We stopped at Caffe Augusto because of it's close proximity to the ferry and it advertising a pizza for 7.50euros.
When we sat down we were not provided with a drinks menu and the waitress pressured us into ordering quickly. We ordered a small glass of house wine and a draught beer. We also took a Margherita Pizza to share. The pizza was the worst I've had in Italy but oh well it was only 7.50..
The bill was brought to us and we were charged over 10euros PER DRINK! We raised our concern with the waitress who quickly got aggressive and rude. She started personally insulting us...telling us that we were too poor to be on Capri and and laughing in our faces admitting that they rip off tourists. She said that she was calling the police if we did not pay. My boyfriend and I agreed that we would pay and he tried to leave the restaurant while i remained at the table ready to pay with my credit card.
This is when everything truly kicked off...4 staff members ran after him and tackled him, trying to rip his backpack from him. They were hitting and kicking him. All for no apparent reason as I did not once move from the table. The original waitress called the police to report us (for what? they're the ones who assaulted and illegally held my boyfriend.) she also continued to insult me some more and then wouldn't let me pay or go and check on my boyfriend...who was still being held and screamed at by another waiter. Finally I paid this rip off price and left. As I was trying to walk out the waitress started to threaten me too..that I wasn't going to get off Capri that night? I don't know if she thought she was some kind of mafia boss or something but it was absolutely ridiculous.
Sure enough the police came looking for us and when we explained the situation quickly took our side and asked us not to press charges against the restaurant.
I wish we had read the reviews before going to this awful establishment. Mine also doesn't seem to be the first about verbal or physical attacks on customers. I hope they go out of business, the are ruining a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely poor service. I work in the restaurant field, I am also a very conscious travel that Iām in a different place and I try as hard as possible to be polite and not one of those ātouristā. I stood at the bar waiting to be served with no acknowledgment, I didnāt make a sound or looks I figured they were busy so I waited. Finally I was acknowledge with a bad look, i greeted in Italian and I asked very politely to try a sample of gelloto because I wanted to know what the Mellon tasted like, normally I would get lemon and strawberry, I was refused and told āI make ice cream not samplesā then he turned away and proceeded to help someone else. I was astonished, I have never experienced anything like that while in Italy. I walk outside and I asked a waitress what the name of this place was. I normally donāt ever write reviews but I felt the absolute need to. Every culture is different but I know when I was unwelcome. As I am finding this place online a woman, who I asked if she was the owner and she replied āI own this whole stripā walks over and said it doesnāt matter if you write review we still do business no matter what you say. I replied very politely āI can see that but I just want to warn people who want some gelato to maybe go somewhere else. She continued to hassle me and said ā you want food... I donāt thank anybody will serve you and have a nice vacationā. I never replied to her and I never instigated any call for this type of interaction. I just walked away because I felt extremely uncomfortable. Be warned. Maybe they had a hard day and I hope they read this, that I myself hope they do well and maybe treat any person who walks in your doors with respect and kindness. Every new face deserves that. I apply that for my life and maybe they should apply it to their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped here on our recent trip to Italy. There are several restaurants in the lower area where this one is, so we have a good assortment to choose from. The manager was out front trying to entice in customers (his winning line was that they were the only restaurant in the row that had an actual chef, the others just had cooks). We had heard that Capri was known for ravioli and limoncello so those were both on our must do list. We sat outside but under a covered area and the weather was perfect if a tad on the cool side. We got a pizza with prosciutto, ravioli filled with ricotta and topped with a light marinara, one limoncello shot and one limoncello spritzer (made with prosecco, limoncello and topped with lemon gelato). Everything we had was wonderful, the pasta for the ravioli was fresh made and cooked perfectly. Iām usually not a big fan of just ricotta filling in ravioli but this was done so well I enjoyed it very much. The marinara was the perfect complement to the pasta and cheese and the flavors worked very well together. The pizza was flavorful, with a good chew to the crust and not too much sauce or toppings. Both cocktails were good, with the spritzer especially tasty. Service was adequate, Iāve come to temper my expectations of service levels at European restaurants so while it wasnāt exceptional it was fine. We very much enjoyed our lunch here and would visit again if we are ever in Capri (which I hope so, overall Capri was...
