As expected, this place was extremely expensive — that seems to be the running theme in Capri, unfortunately. The same goes for friendliness, which again felt like a pattern across the island.
To be fair, the service towards us was decent — the staff were relatively friendly. However, I couldn’t help but notice that at two tables near us, guests were treated very rudely, almost snapped at. That’s something I’ve noticed often in Capri: people are pleasant enough until you ask a single question or require even a small bit of extra effort. The moment that happens, their attitude completely changes.
In our case, we didn’t really ask for anything — we just stopped by for a quick coffee and a small bite before catching the ferry. So our service was fine, but I think it’s fair to mention what we saw around us.
The coffee was very good, and the sandwiches were tasty, though it’s hard to ignore that a simple sandwich cost €15. My friend also had what was probably the most expensive croissant of her life — around €11. Again, this is Capri, so sadly not surprising.
Now, one thing that did disappoint us: my friend ordered a plain croissant, but they brought her a chocolate one instead. When she politely said she hadn’t ordered that, they just replied — rather abruptly — “the plain one is finished.” No apology, no offer to choose something else. They simply decided for her, which I found quite rude, especially at these prices. She ended up with a pistachio croissant, which was fine, but the situation could have been handled with more professionalism and courtesy.
Overall, the food itself was good, and thankfully, no one bit our noses off this time (a saying we use in Dutch!). But the attitude and pricing still make it hard to recommend.
If I could, I’d give this place 3.5 stars — the food was tasty, but the attitude and approach don’t justify the cost. Since I can’t, I’ll go with 3 stars, because a 4 would simply be...
Read moreOne of the worst tourist traps in Capri – avoid at all costs! I sat at Bar Grotta Azzurra today and had what turned out to be the most infuriating and disappointing experience in all of Italy. I ordered two limoncello spritz (clearly listed at €11each on the menu) and one pizza margherita (also listed at €11). The pizza was tiny, by the way — barely enough for one person. To our complete shock, when the bill came, we were charged €17 per drink and €13 for the pizza, making the total €51 for THREE things. When we politely asked for clarification, instead of explaining, the staff became incredibly rude and aggressive, even started yelling that we had been sitting for two hours — as if time justifies overcharging customers! To make things worse, the drinks are supposed to come with complimentary snacks. They didn’t bring them at first, so we had to ask. Eventually, they brought a few sad snacks and then had the audacity to use that as an excuse for overcharging us, saying: “We even gave you free snacks!” — as if that was some favor and not already included with the drinks. Absolutely no transparency, no respect, and frankly, no shame. This place thrives on scamming tourists who won’t come back to argue. Capri is beautiful — don’t let this rip-off bar ruin your visit. Spend your money anywhere...
Read moreRude staff! We had such a horrible experience here. We were waiting for our ferry and this place happened to be right near the port entrance. They sell a bunch of food items including gelato. We ordered a cup of gelato and it was served to us on a plate. We assumed this meant we could sit at a table and have our gelato. We sat for about 5 minutes and were almost done with our gelato when the blonde woman who had given it to us came running over and shouted at us in Italian/English. She grabbed the plate away and walked away continuing to make a scene. We were completely embarrassed and did not realize right away what we had done. Apparently, we were not allowed to sit at a table because we bought "take away" gelato yet it was served to us on a ceramic plate? We did not know this would warrant this kind of reaction especially since all their other tables were empty aside from two. We had encountered rude behavior occasionally on our two week trip in Italy but this was the worst. The staff could have simply walked over and explained that we were not allowed to sit instead of yelling and causing a scene. Also I noticed after reading through the reviews that the local guides seem to rate this place highly yet the other reviews seem to tell a...
