Midori - Thai & Sushi Restaurant — Restaurant in Catania

I was craving some vegan sushi while in my hometown visiting my family, and yesterday I found this very nice, cute little place located in the city center. Let’s start with the location: easy to reach, no matter if you are walking or driving, due to the fact that is VERY centric.

The restaurant is really nice and stylish, the thing I really liked is that the lights are perfectly set and allow you to enjoy the food as they create a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.

I went with my sister and my nieces, I loved the fact that we were able to enjoy the evening having conversations without the need to speak loud as the music was set at the perfect volume.

But let’s talk about the service! We were welcome by the owner, Giusy, she is the perfect host!

One of my niece had never had Thai food, Giusy stepped in and suggested a nice entrance: chicken in a Satay sauce that made my niece very happy and also a rice spaghetti with prawns, she really enjoyed it!

The rest of us is Vegan, Giusy made for us an amazing only Vegan sushi plate which not only fulfilled my sushi craving, but exceeded all my expectations about the sushi I could find in Catania 😍 it was delicious 🤤

We also had vegan Udon, a vegan curry and vegetables tofu and jackfruit (which was out of the menu, she made it explicitly for us) and rice cakes with mushrooms. Believe me when I say that EVERYTHING was so DELICIOUS that, other than the Sushi, which was the first thing to be served at the table, we didn’t have the time to take pictures of the other dishes 🤣🙈.

Thank you Giusy and the rest of the staff! Not only the food was great but the whole experience has been fantastic!!!

After 10 days of Sicilian cuisine experiencing, I wanted try something else and found a sushi & Thai food restaurant with good reviews on google. Very friendly staff welcomed me and interior was clean and tidy. I ordered deep fried shrimp, sashimi & sushi. Deep fried shrimp with a typical mass produced sweet chili sauce was good but sashimi & sushi were so disappointing. Tuna akami (the chef said it’s bluefintuna) & salmon sashimi didn’t have any odor but also taste. Shari (seasoned rice for sushi) wasn’t seasoned well and each piece was shaped randomly. Even some Neta (topping of sushi) was deep frozen ready-made one. A small bottle of Japanese beer for 6€??? I don’t know the general quality & price of sushi in Catania but I wasn’t satisfied at all. Of course, I wasn’t expecting the quality like in Japan. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the very friendly staff and immediately seated. The bartender Francesco came over to recommend drinks based on what we were in the mood for. When we received our drinks they were amazing and exactly what we wanted! The recommendation was spot on! The chef (owner?) came to take our food order and gave us recommendations. We are so glad we took his suggestions. The food came out amazing! He even came to show us the fresh raw crab that he was going to cook to put into one the recommended rolls! The whole meal was so fresh and colorful. Even the small details of the plates and drinks were not over looked. To finish the night the bartender gave us a shot of a drink he invented with vodka soaked gummy bears inside!
