Sicily #8, Catania #8, Italian #3, Pizza #1: had a pretty bizarre experience here mostly due to poor service.
We ordered: chips to start, a margherita san Marzano €12.5, a mortadella e pistacchio €15, & a bufala e carciofi €13,5. Vino rosso de la casa €6/ea.
The chips were a let down as they were served with packets of ketchup and mayo. Not sure how mandolined, fried potatoes are worth €6. The pizzas were all pretty good. I think the mortadella e pistacchio would be my top three of the bunch, but I liked all of them for the most part. The house wine (kind of expensive IMO) was very, very good.
Our waitress was very short and brusque with us, and she was also slow (a rather strange combo). She wasn't very friendly or helpful and kind of killed the vibe. 3/4 of the way through our meal we had other staff helping us and the experience was immediately better.
Overall, while I think Squib's pizza is good, I don't think I'd go back. It's a bit stuffy to me and seems like it's trying to be high end. I much prefer the pizzerias in Naples who just care about serving great pizza where you can get a normal, non-craft beer.
I also think Sicily Pizzeria & Lounge Bar in Ortigia was better across all dimensions (food, ambiance,...
Read moreI would like to leave a 5 stars review because the pizzas are truly the best I had in Catania. But unfortunately I had dodgy experience when I had to pay the bill. I noticed that they forgot to charge me the bottle of wine, and as I really enjoyed my diner, I thought I would be honest with them so I did tell them. Naively, I expected a gesture, but not only they made me pay everything full price, but they sold me a more expensive bottle of white wine, without informing me before (the wine I originally ordered costed 16euro, they gave me a bottle, that was not even listed on the menu (!!!) for 26 euro..) They told me they are making me a good discount, making me pay 16, so the original cost of the wine I ordered. ASSURDO! Next time, don't try to take advantage of your customer, especially if they are honest with you, maybe don't make them pay the coperto, or offer the coffee, I don't know. This is the only and last time I will eat here for sure! The pizza were delicious but I do not tolerate being treated like a...
Read moreMr. Marco served us in a professional way by welcoming us in English with proficient australian accent. He helped us in ordering by recommending Sicilian Margarita Pizza and took care of us with being around to fulfill our needs by bringing ice, sauce, and crushed chili. I may recommend offering free tap water since the Sicilian tap water is drinkable. The pizza came up fresh and to the expectation with crispy dough and different types of cheese with fragments of dried tomato. The indoor table was reasonable and hope to try the outdoor tables when the weather start to improve. I wish the restaurant management devote non-smoking outdoor tables for the non-smoking customers. I recommend strongly this restaurant for pizza and hope the marketing get improved by offering complementary dessert or coffee or appetizer to make service exceed customers expectation and encourage customers to return...
