Cathedral Coffee — Restaurant in Cefalù

My friends and I stopped here to grab some iced coffees and a dessert. I am giving 2 stars for the food, which was good, but the service is terrible… We asked for a table and they told us they only have places in the sun, so we requested takeway… In the meantime (it was a pretty long time preparing the drinks — which we ordered in a hurry since they were visibly annoyed already) a table in the shade became available so we decided to sit, even though the table still had all the empty glasses, cans and plates from the customers before us. They didn’t come to clean the table for 10 minutes After 10 minutes one of the waitresses came to tell us that we only paid for takeaway and we “either pay her the service or get up”. I’m not saying it’s not reasonable to pay for the service when seating at a table, I just don’t think that’s a way to speak to your clients, 0% politeness…. especially when we had no service (we took the drinks ourselves and the table was dirty from the ones before). We got up and left, after they leaved us a bad taste… I would avoid this place...

I had two very different experiences here so gave 4 stars as a whole but it can be divided like this: 5/5 if you go in the morning and meet Jessica, the lady who speaks 5 languages, greets you, explains everything, gives great recommendations and basically runs the whole joint. We came back three mornings in the row, one of which was our last day on which she gave us a little surprise snack to have on our way home. (We opened and ate it in the plane, Jessica, as we promised! :) )

3/5 is for the day we went later in the day and met her colleague. We got coffees and after that wanted some drinks but just couldn't order as he just didn't pay any attention to our attempts to order more. We had to leave as we didn't have more time to wait. Of course he was right there when we went to pay.

So all in all service depends on the person, breakfast pastries and coffee were tasty, the location right in front of...

Huge shout out to the waitress working this morning. She was INCREDIBLE. Honestly some of the best service we’ve experienced in all of Europe. She speaks four languages (!!), was passionate and enthusiastic about her work, and she also went significantly above and beyond for us.

Our daughter accidentally broke a plate during our meal. We were greatly embarrassed and felt horrible, but straight away when it happened she came across from the other side of the restaurant to assure us that it’s okay and she also worked hard to make our daughter feel okay after the accident. That’s not just being good at her job, that’s being an incredible person.

We also noticed that she did a great job at bringing new customers in and making them feel welcome. It’s little wonder that this cafe was so much busier than the others nearby.
