Terrible experience that is not representative of the area.
After a long travel, we arrived here hungry for a late lunch looking forward to try the Italian cuisine. The place looked nice and not too expensive. After waiting almost 20 minutes, I finally got contact with a waiter that happily told me that he was done and going home. It seemed the staff is hardly interested, happy or motivated to work here or show any sense of hospitality. We considered leaving but were so hungry we decided to stay. A mistake on our part.
After a few minutes we finally could order drinks, and what we thought would be pizza. The drinks were served in cans and plastic bottles, accompanied by (very) dirty glasses. One glass had clear lipstick marks on it, and the other food remains. Since it seemed impossible to contact any staff (all hanging out in the bar area), we had to wait a while before getting supposedly clean glasses, of which 1 was still very dirty. Cutlery is provided in paper bags, and we only got one set for two. Again, it took forever to ask for additional cutlery from a reluctant young man, very disinterested in serving.
The pizza, is a style we never experienced, served on a tortilla and not well baked. It's just not very good and very disappointing, any frozen pizza ever had was better. This is indicated and our fault for not clearly grasping this type of pizza existed, but we will make sure to never order it again.
We were very disappointed with this first Como experience and really hoped this was not the case everywhere. Luckily, we have now sampled some great local dishes and wines, served with the most enthusiasm and hospitality. It was just this place where I would really not recommend...
Read moreStopped here for lunch and drinks while walking around and checking out the shops in the area and really enjoyed it. Being a few minutes off of the water, it's a lot quieter and more peaceful, but still close to everything, which was great. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, especially compared to some of the spots not too far away on either the plazas or the lake front. Our group had several different types of pasta, caprese, a focaccia sandwich, and all were good. The waiters were all very friendly and helpful with a couple questions we had. I think all of the negative reviews here seem to be based on a misunderstanding -- they do not serve pizza, do not go here thinking you are going to get pizza and then complain that it's not pizza. The word pizza is not on the menu. What they serve is more of a flatbread. Didn't try it, can't comment on it, but since that seems to be a common complaint throughout the reviews here, I thought I'd mention it. Try reading the menu before you complain that they don't have what you want. The waiters were all very nice and will happily answer questions, in my experience. Anyway, definitely recommend it as a great spot to stop for a quick bite and some drinks while out and...

As an Australian, I'd consider my knowledge and experience of Italian cuisine as fairly extensive, shy of eating Italian in Italy of course!. .. But, since I'm an Australian visiting Italy, I figured I'd have my mind blown with the offerings at even a basic run of the mill restaurant.
Enter Caffè dei Viaggiatori...
I don't mind a curt welcome when I visit a restaurant. I don't even mind being ushered to a table without even being greeted, but I kind of don't enjoy being grunted at like I'm a distant relative of a farmyard pig... And that was our introduction for the evening!
To say the experience was underwhelming would be an understatement at best. The food provided was nothing short of disgusting! If anyone is familiar with SPC tinned spaghetti, then you've enjoyed Michelin quality compared to this!
Long story short, walk right past... If there is nothing else open? Go to sleep with an empty stomach with the knowledge that you'll never have to suffer through what I imagine many others before you have... Its really just not worth...
