Judging by the google photos, which along with the convenient location attracted me to this restaurant, the menu has become significantly attenuated over the past three years but with a significant uptick in price in the items which remain, including the cover charge. We ordered osso buccos and lasagna, with spinach and potato sides. While the sides were ample for two people, 8 euros still seems rather goudge-y. Having come from Milan, and stayed in the area around the central station, we didn't see contorni over 6 euros with 5 being the average, but at least one can say the size was there. The osso bucco, however, while fresh and tasty enough, prepared in a simple way, with peas, was very small for the price. We were just at Mimi in citta alta Bergamo and had the osso bucco there. We felt the portion was somewhat larger. It also included a richer, vegetable stew, as well as an excellent polenta base, but was 2 euros less. At Osteria Fara in Milan, the price performance ratio on this dish, which came with risotto, was also far better. Still very hungry from the entree I ordered, despite asking the waitress "e piccolo? " and being assured not, I asked for a lasagna bolognese. This was very tasty and relatively more fairly priced, though still slightly over the line. There seemed to be a high staff to guest ratio and yet no one seemed terribly busy. The physical restaurant atmosphere was pleasant enough-bright and clean and with ample sized tables- but I didn't feel the value was there and so wouldn't return. That said, the pepper steak, of which I saw a few going by, did seem like a somewhat better choice, if I were to do...
Read moreOh my goodness. Thanks to a recommendation from someone who we met, we found this place. We went in and found it very comfortable. Met the two owners, talk about all smiles! The wait staff found tables for us right away. Table for four please - even if you are full, thank you very much. What to eat? We're going to leave it up to you. So we start with the anti pasta, of course. It's Italy, remember? Then after slamming that, comes the ravioli and pasta with meat sauce and gnocchi. Best dang gnocchi I have ever eaten. Now, finally, the salad. Soooo good, and the vinegar was top shelf! You know what I mean if you have been to Germany and Italy. Hey wait, there's more? Oh my goodness! Now they come out and cook the steak right in front of us. And bring the roasted potatoes, which I love, and they didn't disappoint. The steaks were perfect. Desert was next. You can have one or smaller helpings of several. I had the teramasu and the 1000 layer cake. I was slammed now, and they bring out the limoncello. Yummy. Oh, and needless to say, there was ample wine and waters throughout. Just when we thought it couldn't get better... in comes a guitar trio - the Bartenders- friends of the owners, sets up and kicks some USA, Italian, and European tunes. FANTASTICO! If ever in Florence - Firenza - you SHOULD eat here - you will not be disappointed. Might want to make reservations. I will add pics of all of this. Thanks for reading...
Read moreSo if you want to be served by a hostile waitress (short hair) and be made to feel unwelcomed then this is the location for you. We were not offered bread or bottled water. The waitress abruptly took the salt and pepper off our table to give to another table and did not replace it. A couple arriving after us (sitting behind us)received water and bread within minutes. It took her 20 minutes to get our order. We sat there with nothing on the table. We ordered 2 pizzas and 2 cokes. We kept it simple and did not ask for anything else. She did not want to be bothered with us. This scenario was embarrassing for my daughter and did not understand why this waitress was being such a jerk! And the waitress had the balls to ask when delivering the check “tutto bene”. I had no response. She is not kind. But if you want to have a miserable experience than this is the...
