During our eight-day stay in Florence, we had the pleasure of dining at several restaurants, but none could compare to the experience we had at Osteria Cacio e Vino all’Antico Borgo. Without a doubt, it was the highlight of our culinary journey.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and genuine smiles. Walter, the waiter and husband of the chef, went above and beyond to make us feel at home, ensuring that every detail of our meal was perfect. His attentiveness and deep knowledge of the menu added an extra layer of excellence to our dining experience, offering insightful recommendations that truly elevated our meal.
The food was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was a masterpiece, crafted with the finest ingredients and brimming with authentic Italian flavors. We savored the Pici pasta with white meat sauce and Pecorino cheese fondue, as well as the Grilled Tenderloin in Green Pepper Cream—both cooked to perfection, with rich and flavorful sauces that left a lasting impression. Although we arrived last minute and missed out on dessert, this meal was easily the best we had in Florence. It’s clear that the chef, Walter’s wife, is deeply passionate about her craft, and this passion is evident in every bite.
After spending over a week in Florence, we can confidently say that Osteria Cacio e Vino all’Antico Borgo is a must-visit for anyone seeking a true taste of Italy. Whether you’re a local or a traveler like us, this restaurant offers an experience that is simply unmatched. We will cherish the memories of our time here and will undoubtedly return on our next visit to this beautiful city.

Read moreWe got a recommendation to visit this osteria from a friend who experienced it a few weeks prior. He called it a gem. All I can say is, “si, perfecto!” Like most osteria, it has a very unassuming facade, but as soon as you step inside you are warmly greeted by Walter. He has a smile and demeanor that immediately makes you relax and know this will be an unforgettable experience. To start we ordered the zucchini carpaccio and the fettunta trio. The carpaccio was the perfect starter for a day which reached upwards of 95 deg F. The zucchini was slice paper thin and the tomatoes, perfectly ripe with the precise mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The fettunta trio, similar to a bruschetta, again had perfectly ripe tomatoes, delectable prosciutto and simply salty sardines. For the main, I ordered a tagliatelle with yellow cherry tomatoes and burrata. The pasta was perfectly cooked, just beyond al dente. The burrata flowed over the pasta once broken. In short it was amazing. My wife ordered the filet with green peppercorn sauce. Her account, each bite melted in her mouth. To round out the experience, there was lovely softly playing music serenading us in the background while Walter attended our every need. After 4 days of osterias, ristorantes and trattorias, it was the best dining experience we had....
Read more-DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER EATING HERE- This place served my wife and I food so atrocious that I cannot fathom how this place exists other than by skimming the fat off of tourists unfortunate enough to stuble upon it. A lovely final meal to end our honeymoon.
I spent €68 Euros on two people and left so hungry that I had to stop and get food on the way home. My entree was so small that I thought at first someone had accidently given us someone's appetizer. My wife order spinach and ricotta ravioli and recieved 7 RAVIOLI in a sage butter sauce likely made by a chef who had only recently graduated from fry cook.
My Italian style roast beef cost $24 pounds and consisted of of 6 paper thin slices of deli meat in a light brown gravy with olive oil. They were okay tasting though.
The only reason I didn't send the food back and walk out of the restaurant is because my wife wanted to try their apple pie.
It proved to be the wrong choice, because what the served as "apple pie" was actually a microwaved muffin stuffed with cream and a sliver or two of dehydrated apple on top.
If I didn't have a flight to catch the next day, I would have refused the bill.
This place is so abominably disappointing that the chef who works here surely lies to their friends and family about the place of...
