A Piedigrotta — Restaurant in Milan

After spending the day in Verona we ended up getting back into town slightly after 10. Every restaurant around us, which say "closes at 11," had already closed their kitchens, so with no other option, we ended up here. It was the best thing that happened to us food wise in milan. The wait staff, owner, and cook weren't just cordial, they were downright charming. We had a fantastic time just interacting with them all night. The prices were very good for the region. It's Milan, I've payed 7 euro for a Fanta. Half a liter of wine at this place? 5 euros. Yeah. The menu is very diverse we only had a few plates off of it. We had gotten pizzas the previous night so we went with the other dishes, and we are very glad we did. The pasta and risotto dishes were fantastic, as was the swordfish. I finally felt at home in a busy city full of fashion, labels, and hard to find mom and pop places. We were greeted so warmly and recommended specials from the chef. Our server was absolutely amazing. The food. I am a die-hard foodie and was in love from the antipasti, to primo patti, and secondi all the way through dessert. Their marinated anchovies were spot on a served with a delicious wood baked flat bread. (So good we had to order the fritti version to try it as well) we then got gnocchi, pizza, and langostines that were grilled and to die for. I finally gave tiramisu a shot here in Italy after being sorely disappointed in many restaurants in the USA. It was heaven. We finished with some delicious apertifs and espresso. We accidentally stumbled upon this place and could not have had a better experience. It's unassuming from the outside, but the owners and staff are the nicest people. We enjoyed a lovely dinner, and the owner recommended really lovely dishes when my sister's initial choice was out of stock. There aren't words to describe the kindness of Aldo, who treated us like family. He and his son were extremely welcoming and generous. Definitely eat here and support this lovely restaurant.
