California Bakery — Restaurant in Milan

This was one of the few places with a lunch menu open at a city life on a Sunday morning. So thank you for that already.

The place has a high ceiling, big tables, tables set well apart, plenty of space! Good taste in decoration, organised and clean but cosy and homely.

An interesting formula: pick a price and that includes a main meal/brunch, coffee with unlimited refills and fresh orange juice and water. The whole table has to order, but there were 7 of us and they were kind enuf to close an eye to one of our guests who did not eat.

The service was slow in taking the order, slow in bringing one of the drinks included in the price (“it’s included but you have to ask”) and it was tough catching the attention of a server during the brunch, even to get the bill - they were busy but very rarely did the staff look at us to see if we needed anything or to see if we needed refills. BUT the staff were kind and courteous at all times, and probably not their fault if under staffed.

HOWEVER!!!! The food, once it arrived was made up of generous portions, American recipes tweaked to Italian taste with excellent, tasty ingredients. The American coffee was excellent and the orange juice a large serving too. Will definitely...

I went for the first time and the staff was kind and the food was good. We arrived at a time when we would have to have brunch, which included coffee, orange juice and some bread. When ordering the dish, the waiter said it was large portions.

I thought it was a bit of an abuse to charge for water, since the price of brunch is not that cheap!

One of the reasons for giving 3 stars is due to food waste.. there is so much food on the plate that I left more than half of my plate uneaten (and looking at other customers' tables I realized that it is quite common for people not to be able to eat it all) .

A cool tip to reduce food waste would be to charge different prices according to how much the person orders (e.g. one pancake €15/ 2 pancakes €20..)

I also don't know if it's possible to share a dish between 2 people (it wasn't something that we asked about and the staff didn't say...

SCONSIGLIO!!!! Io e il mio compagno ci siamo fatti 15 km di strada per fare questo brunch! Il ragazzo al ingresso molto gentile ci ha spiegato come funziona il brunch e ci ha fatti accomodare fuori! Prima di ordinare ci portano questo aperitivo con delle verdure, 2/3 salse e della focaccia. Le salse non avevano nessun sapore, nessun odore. Va be.. prendiamo due “Upper west side” con delle “french fries”, gli anelli di cipolla e 2 caffè americani. Il piatto contiene 2 uova Benedict con crispy bacon tra due fette di pane + un’insalata di frutta fresca.. Arrivano i piatti (dopo una mezz’ora che sembrava che non passa più) e noto subito che le french fries hanno un altra forma diversa da quella che ho visto nella foto del menu e diversa da quella che mi aspettavo..( tra l’altro il motivo per quale si chiamano così è proprio per la forma). Il gusto era imbarazzante. Chiedo al cameriere se quelle sono le loro french fries pensando che magari si sono confusi. Mi dice che sono quelle e dico va bene, fa niente. Dopo qualche minuto arriva un altro cameriere per spiegarmi che quelle sono le patatine che fanno loro. Intanto io e mio compagno notiamo che le uova benedict sono arrivate sode. Il cameriere molto gentile ci prende i piatti per cambiarli. Stavolta i piatti ritornano dopo pochi minuti. Guardiamo dentro il panino, apriamo le uova e sorpresa, stavolta il albume era crudo. A me hanno cambiato solo uno di loro cioè mi trovavo con un uovo crudo e uno sodo. Il bacon crispy era in realtà bacon bolito innacquato.. aveva un colore che neanche non pensavi di assaggiarlo. Non dico più che era tutto freddo perché alla fine hanno cambiato solo le 3 uova e non tutto il piatto come sarebbe stato normale ed educato! L’insalata di frutta fresca la mettono nello stesso piatto con le uova, il bacon e le patatine.. Visto la presa in giro ci siamo alzati senza mangiare niente e siamo andati dentro per pagare e scapare! Per fortuna abbiamo beccato lo stesso cameriere che ci ha portati via i piatti e non ci ha fatto pagare. Tutto ci sarebbe costato più di 40€. Piatti cucinati malissimo malissimo! È stato davvero imbarazzante e deludente.. Sconsiglio i piatti che richiedono la tecnica in cucina.. mi dispiace tanto che non ho pensato di fare le foto.. una stella è troppo per il disagio che ci...
