Upon arrival my wife and I were very excited to go to one of the "best pizzerias in Napoli" according to the internet. I ordered a Diavola pizza and an aperol spritz. When they brought me the pizza, it was a Margherita pizza. I told the waiter, who was dressed differently than the others, that this was not the pizza I ordered. He insisted that it was the Diavola pizza, brought me pepperoncino oil and poured it on the pizza. He said "look it's Diavola". Maybe he thought that because I was a tourist I wouldn't notice. I wasn't happy and mentioned that I didn't see the spicy salami. He took my pizza and put some raw salami on it and brought it to me (attached photo). I was still not satisfied because I knew I was going to pay for that pizza and I told a gentleman who seemed to be the owner or someone higher up in the restaurant. I told him what happened and he kindly brought me a new Diavola pizza. The pizza is good, I can't complain although of course I have eaten better in Amalfi coast. I wasn't going to review because of the service of the man I told you about but there were two things I didn't like. The first person who had served me brought us the bill when we picked up our plates. To our surprise they had added 12% service charge, I don't know if this is legal in Italy or not. As a tourist you pay it when they really deserve it and no problem. It makes you angry to pay it when you received a lousy service and they wanted to make a fool out of you. It is worth mentioning that this charge is plus the $2.50 euros for each person for cutlery. In total we paid $50 euros for 1 pizza, 1 pasta and 2 spritz. The worst part was that at the end, a manager in a suit told the waiter who was serving us a phrase that included "tardatto" and pointed at me while waiting for my wife who had already gone to the washroom before leaving. Because of the similarity of Italian to Spanish, I know that "tardatto" means that we were taking too long. I pretended not to understand and chose to ignore it. Please do yourselves a favor and don't go to this restaurant. As I mentioned, I didn't want to do this review because of how nice the guy who seems to be the owner was with me but the staff he has doesn't help him. This restaurant is a...
Read moreAllergic people stay as far as you can from this place, the other try your luck and surely pay an unreasonable high price.
What happened? I'm severely allergic to eggs and milk, I don't have huge expectation regarding what I will be able to eat anywhere because of this, but I never saw anything like this place.
When the menu was brought to me I happily noticed that it has all the allergenes listed as per the EU guidelines (refer to the photos for better understanding). The surprise came when I noticed that all the pizzas where listed as containing eggs, contrary to any DOC guideline, so I asked for clarification to 2 different waiters and 2 managers, here's what happened :
-one waiter didn't know anything about, she went to ask but never returned -one waiter said the eggs indication was false and I should only thrust the allergens listed on individual pizzas and stated that the pizza could not possibly contain any eggs -the managers confirmed that the dough actually contained eggs so I could not eat it. They also reassured me that the allergenes were correct and I could trust them aside of the contamination risk which they understably not guarantee
So I settled for a plate of fried stuff which only listed gluten as allergen, when it came I was about to bite one crocché when one of my friend wanted a piece of it, she took it and we discovered that it was full of cheese, same thing happened to the fried pasta, again refer to the pictures. I was very lucky this happened because if I bited into any of that I would have ended in the hospital in less than 20 minutes
I ended up eating just a few fried veggies. At some point the first waiter came back and asked if I was able to find something to eat, I pointed out what happened and told them that maybe they should re print the menus with the correct allergens, she ignored me, shrugged and went away muttering something.
So, the service in general was terrible and they have the balls to charge for it a fixed 2€ per person and a 12% increase on all prices. My friends waited more than an hour to get their pizzas, which I'm told were OK but nothing exceptional. Terrible and dangerous place, prices that make no sense. In short a tourist trap and not...
Read moreWhen I visit a city for the first time, I expect the weather to be nice. It's nobody's fault if it's bad but of course, under a gray sky, everything looks gray... Plus, some cities, like London 🇬🇧, are made for that gray sky, whereas others (well, basically, any city around the Mediterranean 🏖️) are made for a blue sky. So I was quite disappointed by the weather during our visit to Napoli 🇮🇹. The last day was cold ❄️, windy 🌬️ and rainy 🌧️ (not too much, but still). 😞 We still walked along the shore and, when we got hungry, we decided to have lunch in a restaurant close to the sea. Following tips on the web, we chose Gino Sorbillo Lievito Madre al Mare. There was a line but they told us we would have to wait 20 minutes so we stayed cause 20 minute probably was less than what we needed to find another available spot. The thing is they made us wait almost an hour. That is not ok in general but I had been sick for a couple of weeks so I didn't enjoy that moment at all. 😤 What I didn't like either is that, on the whole menu, I could only order 1 thing: a pizza 🍕 marinara 🍅, as everything else had cheese 🧀 in it. I like Marinara but that was my 3rd one in less than 48h so... 😞 The pizza was good though. My wife and son shared a huge mozzarella and pasta e patate (🍝+🥔). They apparently enjoyed the mozzarella but the pasta not so much. The place was pretty nice but kind of cold cause the door wouldn't stop opening. 🥶 The service was ok. As always in Italy 🇮🇹, they charge a fee per guest. This one was more expensive than at other places but ok we're close to the sea. But, at Gino Sorbillo, they automatically charge a 12% tip on top of that fee. And this is unacceptable. We're not in the US 🇺🇲. 😡 So in the end we paid almost €20 each for 1 dish per person, no alcohol, no dessert. That's way too expensive for Italy 🇮🇹. 👎 I would not go back there.
