What I will be evaluating here is not the restaurant but the pizza workshop. We paid 60€ per person for a 2h workshop including a starter (bruschetta), pizza and a glass of wine. The ambiance was really nice and we had fun but:
It was really short. The workshop time included the time to eat the starter + the pizza meaning that the actual learning time was below 1h. We learned some good techniques for making the dough but we didn’t even finish it as we were supposed to keep moisturising the dough until our dose of water ran out. At the end, the teacher said that at home we should keep doing it for 5 more minutes and that’s it. But honestly I have no idea how it will be in 5’.
Our time in the kitchen was extremely short, more or less 5’. And honestly the pizzaiolo ended up doing most to the work. He flatted out the dough and we got to put our fingers on it for a few seconds. He gave us the exact amount of sauce and cheese that should go into it. It was advertised that we would actively participate on the preparation of the sauce and cutting the cheese (which we didn’t at all).
-The group was quite big, more or less 22 people. We didn’t have much space and the teacher couldn’t possibly give all the due attention to...
Read moreWe went here as part of an organised tour. There was no organisation in seating the group, leaving 2 seats together, then 2 individual seats on a 4 seat table with 3 people already there. We are a family of 4 and obviously wanted to sit together, and especially not be separated from the children. Despite several requests the restaurant refused to do anything, even though there were empty tables further down the room (which remained un occupied for the whole time we were there). My daughter was in tears as both parents had to sit across the room on different tables. To top it all off we were seated with a group of Italians who, despite being lovely and very sympathetic to our situation, didn’t speak a word of English, and us no Italian. The pizza arrived on a very salty base, pools of liquid on top (from the mozzarella I assume). All in all not a great experience and what a shame it tainted our visit to Naples. The owner on the other hand will continue to make money off the back of the organised tours regardless of attitude or...
Read moreWe booked the day before into a pizza-making class (€60 each). The friendly owner (who had good understanding of our English, but wasn't always himself very easy for us to understand) taught a group of about 20 people how to make pizza dough (we all followed each of his steps as he did it). Our dough was then set aside, & we were each given dough that had been made the day before (so it had had time to rise). We were then taught how to spread it out, add tomato paste, mozzarella & basil, before it was put by chef into pizza oven. Then drinks, tasty brushetta & our own pizza, rounded off with a refreshing sorbet. Great fun, & a rewarding 2-hour experience, with friendly helpful staff, but €60 each still seems a bit expensive considering the price of the ingredients & the large class size, esp as we travelled over 1 hour each way to get there, & had all the hassle with parking...
