Wow! This is the place I was looking for in my search across Naples for amazing pizza. There are a lot of good places around town and even a few great ones but Santissima is exceptional across the board.
The pizza
The crust is fluffy and chewy -- perfect. Biting into it starts with a crunch and transitions to a fluffy, chewy dream. They have absolutely nailed the moisture in the fresh dough used to achieve that and it only comes as a result of a passion for the perfect pizza.
On top, the tomatoes were the perfect balance of acidic and fruity, balancing out the fatty, gooey goodness of the fresh mozzarella. They sing together and dance, occasionally putting in a few leaves of mail for effect.
My family and I eat Neapolitan pizza at least weekly like it's a religion and this is hands down the best I've had in Naples and abroad. I don't say that lightly and I'm even a bit sad now that my pizza is gone because I'll have to wait until to tomorrow to experience it again.
The desert
The tiramisu for dessert was delectable. The dark chocolate powder on top provides the perfect bitter, hearty goodness to usher you into the cream cake and espresso filling. Each bite begs for another and I'm not sure if it was the espresso or the amazing flavors dancing around in my mouth, but I think I ate it faster and faster with each bite.
In addition to their traditional pizzas, they have a range of specialty pizzas, but don't let that as we do if you're a purist. They also offer the core four so dive into those if you are looking for the classics.
A handful of specialty beers. Compliment the pizzas though. I have to admit I'm not adventurous enough to mix that with a new pizza just yet. Maybe next time. And that can't come soon enough.
If you're looking for the best pizza on pizza street, this is it. One just a handful of steps off the main path and believe me -- that's going to be the best decision you...
Read moreThis relatively new pizzeria in Napoli, just a block off of the carnavalesque Via dei tribunali, offers delicious pizza and excellent service in a beautiful 2nd floor room of an old church with a vaulted ceiling (hence the name) and a relaxed atmosphere. Once we tried it, Pizza Santissima was our go-to place for pizza. Our waitress was efficient, friendly, and helpful-- and she indulged my attempts to speak Italian with patience and humor. When my sister arrived the second night feeling dizzy, our waitress quickly brought several bottles of water and then suggested sugar (an Italian panacea). See the picture below of the happy outcome. (The napkin they hold refers to what messy pizza eaters we were.) One of the brothers/ owners spoke with us after our last dinner and exuded enthusiasm for his new undertaking. A great experience and...
Read moreIt's a difficult one to rate. First impressions were really good. The upstairs room has a beautiful ceiling. The staff were welcoming.
The dough of the pizza is excellent, but I found the toppings unbalanced; too much friarelli relative to the other toppings. To be fair, it may just have been my pizza, as the margheritas I saw around the restaurant made me think I should've just stuck with that. Salsiccia e friarelli is usually one of my favourite pizzas, though.
The weird part was that they let a busker into the upstairs section of the restaurant. That kind of ruined the atmosphere for me.
Prices were expensive considering the flawed experience, but would've been totally fine if it was as good as I was expecting. (3 euro seating charge didn't seem to appear anywhere except the...
