My favorite experience out of 25 days looking for the best food in Southern Italy. Noto is a little out of the way, but it is absolutely worth the pilgrimage to see not only this cafe, but an authentic Sicilian town. We visited three times in 24 hours and had a great experience with service each time. I think the key to that is to try to speak in Italian as much as you can, even if you are bad at it. You can tell that theyre trying to avoid it becoming a tourist spot: the menu is all in Italian for instance with no English anywhere.
With three visits we sampled a substantial portion of their menu. Nowhere in any of what we tried was there a single miss, a single component not incredible. The granite and brioche was simply incredible. We tried almond, lemon, and apricot and our favorite was almond. Other almond granita we've tried has tasted kind of like amaretto, but not this one. Just almond. The cassatina was totally delectable with creamy pistacchio and elegant candied fruit on top to contrast. The Terre Nostra was a miracle of flavors, but make sure you give it a couple minutes to warm before trying. The I Profumi di Bianco was the first dessert I've ever had with candied tomato. It was an incredible display of flavors. We tried the Oro, Montezuma, Ricotta, and Mandorle e Cannella gelati. All were sublime, and the best I have ever had anywhere in the world or across Italy. Even their small bites they have with their aperitivi are good (and I think the only savory thing they make). On our final visit we enjoyed more granite alongside the cappuccino with locla almond milk. That was a revelation, and we instantly regretted getting cappuccini without that. We had their cannolo con crema which was delicate and cracked like glass to reveal cool, rich crema. And we sampled four of their cakes, each of which was a tour de force of unique and inspired flavor combinations.
I simply cannot recommend this place highly enough. Make the pilgrimage, spend a couple days, and come armed with fluency in the food part of Italian language for an experience you will...
Read moreI travelled to Noto specifically to experience this world famous Cafe. I'd seen Corrado featured in Netflix's 'Chefs Table' and my mouth had been watering ever since. Firstly, I'm not a fan of sweet foods but, the way Corrado''s story was told I just HAD to try for myself. So, in honour of my son (who's also a Chef and knows his way around a great Italian granita).... I not only had one, but THREE granitas and TWO brioche! As we say in NZ... "Go hard or go home!!" So I went hard!! Actually, it wasn't difficult at all. The texture is sublime and the flavours are so true and pure! And then to dip the brioche into the granita... oh my! When you find yourself in the beautiful island of Sicilia, go to Noto and experience 'heaven in a bowl' with TWO brioches! And, yes, sadly the service IS slow AND not particularly friendly (which is such a shame!) hence only the 4 stars but go in, grit your teeth, order, grit your teeth again, then when the dishes arrive... relax, close your mind off to the noise and bustle and allow yourself to be transported. I did! And now, as I continue my travels through Italy, if I consider ordering one I feel like I'm 'cheating' on Corrado's perfect granitas! So, go on, head to Cafe Sicilia. I recommend the 'degustation' and don't forget... order TWO brioches!...
Read moreGreat experience! The prices are totally fine because everything is handmade. The quality and taste is outstanding. The service too - the waiters are very polite, warm and friendly with a lot of attention to detail e.g. how the little plates and bowls get presented on your bistro table. We will come back for sure! The only negative thing we can report are the other tourists! It’s very crowded and gets a bit hectic because of them. We witnessed a very embarrassing and unpleasant situation with an US American / Japanese couple who behaved very weird (taking photos of everything and annoying other visitors) and finally left the Café because they did not want to pay the obligatory service and table fee of 3 € per table. They shouted and behaved very hectic and unpleasant, but the waiter of Café Sicilia managed it all with a wonderful manner. Big compliment to him! He even apologized to us for witnessing this bad situation. Really outstanding friendly and thoughtful! Please dear tourists: inform yourself about the habits and customs of service here and just relax! This cafe doesn’t have a extreme fancy interior design or have any hectic takeout/ takeaway nonsense! Don’t annoy other tourists or the...
