Vinet — Restaurant in Padua

I would give 6 stars if I could. This is for sure the biggest surprise in Padua.

We, group of 4, came in after 22:00. Unfortunately the kitchen was about to close, but they could still serve us some dishes.

We sat down and from there on we were subjects of the greatest gastronomical experience I’ve ever had in Italy. Our waiter, most friendliest lady in Italy, was asked if she could just tell the kitchen to combine some things to feed 4.

What happened next was a tale of indulgence and utter astonishment of the taste, the freshness and the originality of the dishes. And the wine! The wine! Best wine choice in the world!

We were full afterwards, but we still were convinced to try some tiramisu. Also amazing!

My wife and I booked for dinner at Vinet as we were staying a few hundred meters away at the Hotel Majestic Toscanelli. Vinet is a different dining proposition to the more traditional Italian restaurants with a modern bright and fresh interior (white painted walls and a high vaulted brick ceiling). Domingo is a charming host and the menu offers innovative choices using locally sourced ingredients. The sheep milk ricottta cannoli in fillo dough with pistachios was a delightful appetizer and the ravioli stuffed with herbs and ricotta and a poultry Veneto style ragu made for a light but tasty main course. Posticino da fuori davvero carino e invitante, ricorda i Wine Bar Parigini, si trova a ridosso della chiesa San Canziano di Padova. Carta vini ricercata, prezzi più alti della norma, gin tonic fatto con cura, salatini serviti con estrema parsimonia (per 4 drink una ciotola minuscola, gustosi ma sempre da discount). Visto che l'orario era tra le 18h e 19h, non servivano più i cicchetti nei quali speravamo per cui abbiamo preso un tagliere per 4, abbastanza soddisfacente. Tre giri di drink più un tagliere abbiamo pagato 100€. Al servizio ed atmosfera, invece, do 1 perché il propietario alla fine ha dato un brutto esempio di accoglienza, professionalità e ideologia. Non ha saputo gestire una situazione spiacevole accaduta nel suo locale. È successo un episodio emblema di aggressione verbale con tanto di razzismo e ostilità quando una ospite, evidentemente provocatrice, piena di odio verso persone che parlavano una lingua a lei sconosciuta, ha manifestato un comportamento inacettabile in un paese civile. Siamo tutti bravi ad essere contrari al razzismo nella teoria, ma quando un episodio di odio razziale accade davanti a noi, non possiamo far finta di niente e mettere sullo stesso piano il razzista alterato e le persone che subiscono un attacco. Quando i clienti, in questo caso quattro donne, chiedono al proprietario un aiuto perché si sono sentite offese e ghettizzate nel suo locale, era il momento di dimostrare tolleranza ZERO verso la discriminazione e xenofobia. Lui, invece, ha deciso di chiudere un occhio e trattare quest'episodio come semplice battibecco tra ospiti. Spero impari da questo brutto esempio e capisca che l'etica deve vincere sul guadagno.
