Antica Gelateria Ilardo — Restaurant in Palermo

On our arrival night in Palermo, we went for a late night stroll from where we were staying and stumbled on this ice cream parlour by accident. We were drawn to it as many people were sitting outside, some with young children… this was around midnight to 1am on a Thursday night, yet the atmosphere amongst the Sicilians and these kids was lovely to watch as every adult embraced them. However, back to review - the ice creams were delicious and so many flavours to choose from too! Thereafter this first amazing experience, we decided on our exclusions around the city to checked out other ice cream places but we were never tempted by those as they didn’t have as many great flavours as this one! Cos of the lovely vibe outside their premises and the fab generous portions/flavours, we returned each night of our stay in Palermo. Great value - a Large cup with 3 scoops only €4!...

La gelateria Ilardo è una delle più antiche della città. Ogni palermitano la conosce e c’è stato almeno una volta. L’ho frequentata fin da piccolo grazie ai miei nonni e finora è stata una meta obbligatoria ogni volta che passavo per il Foro italico. Ho sempre dato un giudizio di 4 stella a questa gelateria; oggi mi vedo costretto a modificare il mio voto ad una stella in seguito a ciò che accaduto domenica scorsa (21 luglio). Premetto che la domenica precedente ci eravamo fermati per prendere un aperitivo nello stesso posto. Il cameriere gentilissimo e preparatissimo, ci espone tutti i vari aperitivi che potevano preparare. Scelto il nostro ordine ci porta 3 spritz fatti a regola d’arte che potevano benissimo competere con quelli preparati in Veneto; il tutto era accompagnato da un abbondante antipasto composto da patatine, focacce ripiene e altri salatini. Totale dell’ordine: 18€. La domenica successiva ci rechiamo di nuovo da Ilardo per ripetere l’esperienza. In 7 giorni ancora non capisco come possa il servizio essere crollato letteralmente a picco. Un cameriere (diverso da quello della domenica precedente) ci porta 3 spritz senza usare un vassoio e senza cannucce, li posa davanti a noi e dice solo: “Ventuno”, senza aggiungere altro. Al di là del modo poco raffinato di servire dei clienti, abbiamo dovuto persino chiedere che ci venisse portato qualcosa da mangiare, e dopo un paio di minuti ci viene servito un piattino con delle patatine. Se almeno lo spritz fosse stato come quello della domenica precedente, pazienza, non avrebbe giustificato l’aumento repentino di 3€ ma almeno si sarebbe potuto bere; lo spritz servito invece era arancione sul fondo e totalmente bianco in superficie. In pratica era solo Aperol e acqua. Alla fine ce ne siamo andati delusi lasciando la consumazione sul tavolo. Forse siamo stati scambiati per dei turisti, perché non trovo altro motivo che giustifichi un aumento dei prezzi accompagnato da un calo drastico del servizio, ma se così fosse non sarebbe ugualmente giustificabile perché un cliente è sempre un cliente, sia che venga da Palermo, da Aosta dal Malawi o persino da Callisto. Purtroppo questo atteggiamento riflette una scarsa capacità imprenditoriale in quanto si preferisce rinunciare al cliente abituale pur di massimizzare i profitti di una manciata di pochi euro e per una...

Arriving here, we didn't even notice the waitress, since she was sitting in front of the building, wearing somewhat trashy, regular clothes and looking at her phone. When she brought us the menus, she just smacked them on the table. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, a pizza and water. The water came in a bottle, accompanied with plastic cups (the horribly fragile kind). The cocktail was awful. It was comprised of three ingredients: a melange of salad greens comprised mostly of the white part of iceberg, poorly deveined shrimps and a regular cocktail sauce.
