I Porci Comodi. Bless its little heart. Nestled in a square so ridiculously picturesque, you'll swear you've accidentally wandered onto a movie set for a charming Italian romance. We're talking ancient buildings, a whisper of greenery, and lighting so perfect you'll instantly feel like a supermodel. Then you spot the giant menu boards, prices that make your wallet sing… a hidden gem as per influencers and social media. You order the charcuterie platter, because, well, when in Italy, right? It arrives, a magnificent, sprawling landscape of cured meats that makes your eyes widen and your stomach do a celebratory jig. For a glorious minute, you're convinced you've found the cheat code to endless deliciousness. Then you dig in. And you realize that what appears to be a generous bounty is, in fact, an optical illusion so profound it could rival David Copperfield. It's more like a few lonely slices of prosciutto spread out like they're socially distancing on a giant board. Suddenly, that "massive" portion feels less like a feast and more like a cruel joke your nonna would play. My advice? Eat a small horse before you arrive, or you'll be leaving with your stomach rumbling louder than a vespa with a faulty exhaust. And the service? Well, let's just say it's an unforgettable journey. It's less "your order is ready, signore" and more yelling your name across the piazza feels more like “HEY! YOU! THE HUNGRY ONE!" As for payment, prepare for the cash-only showdown. I totally get supporting small businesses, but the level of pure, unadulterated shock and dismay from the cashier when I dared to suggest using a card made me feel like I'd just insulted their entire family tree. Seriously, the look she gave me could curdle milk from across the square. So, is I Porci Comodi a hidden gem? If your definition of "gem" includes a stunning backdrop for your vacation photos and a good story in Instagram, then absolutely! But if you're looking for stellar food portions or service that doesn't involve being yelled at for wanting to pay with plastic? Bless your optimistic heart, but you might want to...
Read moreVery great sandwich. I had "The Farmer" and it was great. You can feel ingredients are qualitative. Prices are decent for the quality you get.
However, service was a bit chaotic for me. Maybe because it was peak lunch time. They forgot to take my name at the till and to be honest there is no clear indication whether you can order and sit directly, or whether you need to order, wait that they offer you to sit down, or whether they thought you were take away so jus wait there until they call you. So I stood awkwardly for 10min with my receipt in hand inside the shop. Until they yelled my drink order, so I had to stand another 5min awkwardly with an actual glass (not a plastic one) of campari spritz in hand, still without my sandwich. Until a waiter offered me to sit down outside. But they still didn't have my name associated to a sandwich so I signaled it to the waiter and I had to wait another 10min easily. Pretty sure they forgot about me initally cause some people who ordered after me, received their sandwich way before me. Maybe more written instructions or at least explainations from the cashier when you order and pay would be welcomed. In comparison I had a more genuine and comfortable experience at L'Ostellino, with equivalent food quality.
Update : removing 1 star. I got really sick and had a stomachache all afternoon after. I didn't eat anything else the whole day so It can only be the sandwich. It tasted good, but seems like there is something I wasn't able to digest. I really hope I didn't get poisonned...
Read moreDelicious Italian Tuscan Pisa Cuisine Picnic-style Sitting on a “Park Bench with a View” This place is delightful. It is a short walk from the Leaning Tower of Pisa on your way back to the Arno river. It is a small place that serves wine (vini) and Italian sandwich (e panini). As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a friendly server (owner?) who patiently and enthusiastically explained the menu. We decided to go with his recommendation of a charcuterie board of various hams, cheeses, jams, & bread accompanied with two glasses of red wine. We were not disappointed as the presentation of the charcuterie board was amazing (like a piece of art) and more importantly the food was delicious with a mixture of savoury, sweet and salty flavours. In addition to the delicious food we were able to enjoy this wonderful food experience picnic-style while sitting on a “park bench with a view” in a small parkette shaded by the trees. This was an excellent Italian Tuscan Pisa Cuisine...
