Quiet little restaurant away from the crowds. The food was average, it seemed to lack any seasoning or confidence - for example the Pesto on the pasta didn't taste of much at all and the pizza sauce was bland. Nevertheless we found pizza with whole olives which were very good - the food wasn't bad but just not near the standard we have tasted elsewhere in Italy. The Chef just needs to be braver with flavour as the ingredients were great quality so you can't go wrong! The service was a mixed bag, the younger man who served us was very friendly and couldn't help enough, the older lady seemed to get annoyed when we were asking about dietary requirements and adding toppings to a pizza. We are Vegan so wanted to have a normal pizza but without cheese, however the pizza labelled Vegan on the menu was also their gluten free option so used a different base. We did get the normal base after a long conversation, we were just missing oregano from one pizza but it was still okay without. 2 things to be aware of - they add a €2.50 cover fee per person, secondly they allow the steeet traders to enter the seating area (even though its closed off) which was annoying when trying to relax. The cooling fans were good in the heat

A great cosy place away from the tower crowds, tastefully decorated, and in a beautiful square. We sat outside and it began to get a bit chilly in November, so they turned on the heat lamps. We had a simple pasta and the day's special which to our delight turned out to be something we've never had before, slow-cooked tripe in an earthen pot with tomato, garlic and some herbs, delish. The owner's daughter that served us was probably thirteen, very nice, quick and knowledgeable, so that added to the fine evening. the place is not expensive at all for such a setting in Pisa, maybe the drinks are a bit on the high side, but that's a common thread on all Italian restaurants, don't expect to find draught beer here. The deserts and the coffee with rum at the end were divine, and everything barely took a few minutes to arrive streaming hot. Definitely check Dantesca out if you are worn down by the tower bustle, and don't miss the daily special :)

Really disappointing food. It's really hard to find vegan meals in Italy so we were really excited to eat here, especially based on the reviews. Got here for lunch at midday and ordered the stuffed tomato, filo pastry and Beetroot gnocci. Stuffed Tomato: (9.5 Euro) The tomato was really sour, too much vinegar. Also 9.50 for one tomato so very expensive. Filo pastry (10 Euro) was just 3 small pastries consisted of grated vegetables and fried. Beetroot Gnocci (10 Euro): We did not eat the gnocci and sent it back. The staff did not charge us for the gnocci. The pesto was tastless and the gnocci was just floury and hard to chew. Inedible. For 24.50 Euro all up for lunch (would have been 34.50 if we hadn't refused to pay for the gnocci) we were left hungry as we had shared 1 tomato and 3 small pastries for a lunch that we didn't even enjoy. 5 Euro for service charge. Food terrible and really expensive.

I had a chance to dine at this restaurant today with my family. At the beginning everything was quick (aperitifs, water etc..) and the young waitress that took care of us was polite. However, after eating the primi piatti (which was also good 4/5*) everyone received their next meal except for my wife who ordered a fish. I have asked about it in the half of my meal and was assured that the meal is being prepared and will arrive any minute now. Everyone finished their meal except for my wife and after asking again for the ordered food we received an answer that the chef will not cook her the food from the menu. My wife has celiac disease and ordered this meal since it was one of the foods that didn’t contain gluten on their menu. I find it unprofessional to say that the chef doesn’t want to prepare this food for her at the end of our meals. Which is a shame because everything else was good. The service receives 3* for informing us at the very end and not...

Having dinner here was a big mistake. As the restaurant was a bit further off the main tourist streets, we decided to eat here in order to avoid 'tourist traps.' Well, this restaurant is, in fact, a tourist trap. After being seated, the owner (?) came up to us and told us they had some daily specials, among which was a "Tuscan Soup." She never mentioned the price, but we ordered it anyway, thinking: it's just a soup, how expensive can can it be? Well, as it turned out, the soup cost 14,50 EUROS (per bowl). Are you kidding me? 14,50EUROS for a soup consisting of some old vegetables (carrots, onions, nothing special)? Ridiculous.

Edit after reading the owner's response:

I kindly thank you for your response to this review. I would like to point out that the 'Tuscan Soup' is nowhere to be found on your menu: https://www.dantescapisa.it/lacarta

I am, however, very pleased to hear that you intend to inform your guests about the price of this soup...
