I have been to Positano several times and am fairly familiar with many of the restaurants here. So, I am delighted to write a review on a relatively new (only a few years old or so) entrant, D’Aiello Ristorante (ate there several times because the food was so good). Located in the Hotel Savoia, I can and do give it 5 stars for food, atmosphere, and service. I am allergic to seafood and so cannot comment on those items, but my dinner companions heartily praised them. I did try the different pastas. They know how to cook pasta and the pomodoro, Bolognese, and lemon sauces were inspired and delicious. Living in the US, I’ve certainly had ravioli too many times to count. At D’Aiello they served it with pomodoro sauce or, alternatively, with a lemon sauce (remember, the Amalfi coast is famous for its lemons). I had both (different nights). With the pomodoro sauce it was delicious, but I was a little skeptical when I ordered the ravioli with lemon sauce, because it was different from what I was used to. But if it would not have been embarrassing to my dinner companions, I would have licked the plate to make sure I got every last drop. It was tasty, flavorful, filling, and I had to come back to try more items. The drinks were excellent. The focaccia was light and tasty (and soaked up the sauces perfectly). The desserts were sinful (yes, that is high praise). Next time I travel to Positano, I’ll be sure to reserve a table...
Read moreThis restaurant is on the second level of a hotel. They seem to be overwhelmed and understaffed but the staff are very courteous and attentive. We ordered the pork belly and the grilled squid both of which are flavorful. The pork belly was thin slices of pork belly on top of grilled onions and bell peppers and some sauce and drizzled with even more sauce. The flavor in combination with each other was really delicious. The grilled squid also had sauces drizzled around it and the flavor was excellent. We ordered the lobster pasta and it had a very delicious flavor. Lobster was fresh. We also ordered the fish and seafood risotto. The flavor was light and the risotto was unfortunately undercooked. The casarecce pasta with meat bolognese sauce was very good with great flavor and lots of meat in the sauce. Desserts were pretty good we got the tiramisu which had a strong flavor of espresso and cocoa. It was delicious. The lemon cake was just okay in my opinion. We were expecting a lot more tangy flavor but it was a little lacking in that aspect. The desserts were pretty pricey in relation to the rest of the menu and they're going price of these desserts in and around Positano. Overall our experience dining at this restaurant was pretty good. We would...
Read moreWe had a lovely dinner tonight! The staff was incredible, patient, and accommodating. The atmosphere was lovely. We had a table by the window and we were able to look out on a charming and bustling little street. The wine list was extensive and the staff was very knowledgeable and able to help us pick the perfect bottle. The food was very good, some dishes we LOVED and others we would probably venture away from next time.
LOVED: Squash blossoms - absolutely wonderful. The tempura was light, the blossoms were perfectly seasoned, and the filling was divine.
Croquettes - a little amuse bouche from the chef. Tons of flavor packed into a little bite, can’t go wrong.
Gnocchi with shrimp - both raw and cooked shrimp gave this an amazing texture, the sauce I would have licked off the plate, and the perfectly-sized small gnocchi were the most brilliant bite.
GOOD, NOT GREAT: Sliced steak - good flavor with the arugula and Parmesan, temperature was a bit off since it was such a thick cut of meat
Tagliatelle with mushrooms - pasta was good (overcooked slightly), sauce was good, mushrooms were good. Needed a little seasoning added, much better with some salt.
Lemon delight - cake was light but also dense at the same time. The lemon curd in the middle...
