If you are in Positano and looking for an upscale but still impressively casual place to have dinner or just small plates and drinks with a breathtaking view, Il Tridente Positano located at the Hotel Poseidon is the place to do it.
We opted not to do the full dinner and went for the drinks, appetizers and view of the Positano nighttime coastline.
The staff was extremely professional and attentive to every one of or needs. Never once did I feel like we were ignored or that the staff was too busy to get to us. For example, at one point my water glass was close to empty and I attempted to refill it myself with our table side chilled bottle of Panna still water. But before I could reach the bottle myself, a staff member was already there and said “relax. I will take care of that for you”. It was like he appeared out of thin air.
Our table was filled with three hefty (complimentary) appetizers from the chef to snack on before we ordered our drinks and meals. The complimentary appetizers were all delicious and could have easily stood on their own as actual menu items. It’s very rare that you are given complimentary food of that portion size at any restaurant. It was a very nice touch.
We went with the large meat and cheese charcuterie platter that was more than enough food for two people. All of the meats, cheeses and fruit spreads were delicious!
The drinks themselves were also top notch. Who would have thought that quite possibly the best classic margarita that I have ever sampled would have been in Positano Italy? Well, it was.
This is definitely a restaurant worth visiting while in Positano. Just make sure to make a reservation in advance because they are fully booked regularly and we actually witness two walk on couples denied entry because they didn’t have a reservation.
All in all, this is a sure...
Read moreWords can’t properly explain how grateful we are to have chosen Il Tridente restaurant and the Hotel Poseidon for our wedding lunch. This place is not only about thoughtful design, breathtaking views and highly rated Mediterranean food (which was basically our reason to chose it in the first place!), but mainly about PEOPLE.
Our initial correspondence was very smooth and friendly with a very prompt response. We were presented a variable options to choose from in regards to the table settings and food. We had asked whether it would be possible to apply some of our regional traditions to the day, what was responded to with the biggest enthusiasm and genuine curiosity. We had quite a few requests that were outside of the offering and every single one of them got handled with the kindest manner.
When it came to the day itself, it absolutely went beyond our biggest expectations. From the moment you walk in, to the very last second of your stay, you’re surrounded by the most genuine and loveliest human beings. The team that had looked after us and our family and friends, made us feel the most special. Food and drink is absolutely divine, and the views are one of most spectacular on the coast.
Place has got a beautiful combination of what you look for in Italian hospitality as well as a romantic and very cheerful ambience.
I also would like to underline that everything was handled with the respect for the Covid safety guidelines, but simultaneously didn’t feel inconvenient in any sense.
I will recommend this place to anyone with any hospitality need, and I am certain that you will be treated in an equally same way, no matter what’s the purpose of your visit.
Liliana and the Team, thank you so much much for making us feel this way, and we assure you that we will see you in a very near future!!!

Read moreAn over the top lunch!
We visited Il Tridente for lunch on May 17, while on our cruise through the Mediterranean. Due our limited time we narrowed our visit to Sorrento and Positano. Looking for the most spectacular location we selected Il Tridente. We submitted our request for the first available lunch time which was at 12:15, and we promptly received a response with confirmation of the date and time. Very professional. We were very warmly greeted and informed to proceed through a beautiful staircase to the second level where we met the hostess. Again, we were greeted courteously in a very relaxed manner that just set the mood for what was to follow. From the reception we could already glance the view we would to have but it really does not prepare you for the actual panorama when you arrive at your table. I’ll let the photos relay the spectacular scenery. I could end it there but there’s so much more. The service was impeccable. Unfortunately I do not remember our waiter’s name but suffice to say he was spot on with his suggestions of dishes and wine, his elegant presentation but friendly manner and his outstanding service from our appetizers to the espressos. Again, excellent. We both loved every single dish. We made it a point to each order a different item so we could get a good sense of the menu. We knew with only one day in the Amalfi Coast this would be our only opportunity to dine here. From the caprece salad, pasta and seafood we can say it was all delicious . We accompanied it with a sparkling Rose listed for about 95 euros which was excellent! My recommendation is to get there early to obtain the table you want although the view is phenomenal from every table. Positano is beautiful and Il Tridente is literally...
