We were recommended È Passata La Moretta by a local friend. Who specifically stated to try the carbonara and so naturally we had to give it a try. I wanted to make sure we had a table outside for dinner so I dropped by the restaurant at lunch time (they have a contact number but as a tourist I don’t have calling capacity, only data) - I wasn’t confident that it would be okay to walk in during lunch and reserve for dinner but the team couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating and I was able to reserve a table outside for that night.
Arriving at 8pm in the evening for our reservation, La Moretta was busy (so definitely worth reserving of you want to ensure you get a seat). There was a good mix of locals and tourists and the restaurant itself is located a few streets back from the main road, down some fairly tight alleyways, meaning there is limited car traffic, adding to the ambience, especially if seated outside.
We were served quickly by a very attentive and professional team of waitstaff and had the Buratta with Red Cabbage as a starter - the Buratta was the creamiest I have had yet, delicious in pairing with the bitter red cabbage, a refreshing and light starter. For mains we had the Amitriciana and Carbonara pastas. The Amitriciana had a delicious, deep red and rich sauce with a generous amount of pecorino, not too salty either which I appreciated. The Carbonara was really the star though, very traditional, very tasty and let me say that I would pay a lot of money just to know how they got that Guanciale so crispy - absolutely divine.
Overall the food, ambience and service were all on point, and we had a very enjoyable evening. Thank you to the La Moretta Team for making our last night in Rome a memorable and...
Read moreGreat find in Rome. A bit off the beaten tourist track (although just steps away) we are lured by the busyness and that we mostly heard Italian spoken. All tables were booked at around 8:30 pm on a Friday evening, but were told to wait 10 minutes since people who booked a table hadn't shown up yet and were already late. We got the table and we had delicious (what seemed to be) homemade pasta, a great glass of red wine (actually the best one I had had by the glass so far in my travels through Italy this time around. They also had franciacorta by the glass!). Service was quirky but great. The owner who doesn't speak English or Spanish (the man who seemed to be the manager does speak English) was lovely, got somebody else (somebody he knew who was having dinner at the restaurant) to talk to us to tell us that the restaurant wasn't on Tripadvisor. :-). The waiters and the owner were constantly greeted and spoken by the patrons as if they were friends or regulars. mostly everybody was Italian. Great experience. We came back two days later for another good Italian experience. Ah! And by the way, it's very reasonably priced, not like the restaurants closer to Piazza Navonna or...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by the tour guide for great pasta, arrived at the restaurant at 8 the host said to come back in 45 minutes. But we decided to just wait while waiting 3 other couples came up and were seated right away (they did not have reservations) since they were literally walking by and we overheard them talking.
When we came up and asked like what is the hold up the host was like fine come with me. Like he was doing us a favor. sat at at the worst table basically in the middle of the arch where the waiters walk.
ordered the Cacio e pepe with Truffle. it was sop peppery and so salty and has a super liquid sauce which its not supposed to have. The waitress never came up to check and had to get up to the bar to get a check since no one even came up. the pasta was terrible and we left...
