Had the 10 course tasting menu. Most dishes were okay, none were great. One we did not like at all and the waiter said he would bring us something different (which he never did, even though he did for the table next to us when they didn't like a dish). I'm pregnant so we didn't drink any wine, just water, and they were very bad about bringing us refills. We were often without anything to drink and several times had to flag down wait staff to bring us more water. I'm not sure if it's because we didn't order wine, but every other table around us got some amuse-bouche before the first course. We did not. Every other table also got a tray of sweets at the end of the meal (truffle and macaroon) but again we did not. After we were done with our last course (10pm), they completely ignored us. We were expecting the tray of sweets to arrive but after 30 minutes of no attention (and no water), we decided either it wasn't coming or we didn't care anymore. So we flagged down a waiter and asked for the check and some water. We got water but no check. After about 15 more minutes we asked again and then were told they were having trouble with the credit card machine and we should wait a bit longer (note they still hadn't brought us the bill). 15 minutes later they finally brought us the bill and said they were still having trouble and we should wait 5 more minutes. We opted instead to go find a cash machine. So we walked to a cash machine, paid the foreign ATM fees to withdraw cash, walked back to the restaurant, left cash and left. By this time (11:30pm) it had been an hour since we asked for the bill, 1.5 hrs since we finished our last course. Technical difficulties are understandable but they simply did not handle it properly. They should have been more attentive, let us know what was going on, and really should have brought us complimentary drinks or desserts for our inconvenience and their apologies. Instead they left us sitting there with no water and no updates. This was our last night in Rome and we had plans to go visit some sites at night after dinner (Trevi fountain, etc) but had to scrap those plans because we didn't get back to the hotel until midnight and needed to prepare for our morning flight. Overall, just an okay meal. But a very unfortunate end to our Rome trip and very unprofessional and uncourteous treatment by the wait staff and the establishment in general. They should be treating their customers better when things go wrong even if it's small details like a complimentary drink or treat...
Read moreThe restaurant is located in the most charming street, and the setting and the fairy lights and green canopy make this a very romantic place. Having dined in 2 star Il Pagliaccio only a few nights back, perhaps it was an unfair comparison, but I give this full stars for service, genuine, authentic and caring/attentive on the right side of that line, and 3.5 for food. Special mention goes to Fabrizio and Matteo for making my evening. Also loved how relaxed and flexible they were about the menu. I was trying to have something a bit more practical between the two offered choices of 4 dishes or 10 dishes tasting menu. Fabrizio suggested 5 dishes, and I was allowed to skip the dessert, yay! €90 for 5 dish choice and flexibility is good value as far as I am concerned. The food itself was uneven - some spectacular standouts, and some questionable additions. Standouts for me were: the amuse bouche, the scampi carpaccio with foie gras, the mama's reworked guinea fowl pasta, and the sweets with coffee. The tutti frutti seafood spaghettini with tomato gelato also excellent. The let down was the tempura globetrotter fish, fusion confusion, as we call it in Australia. Cevice sauce poured over tempura made it soggy, the raddish Korean style, not sure how it fit in or what it added, and single vegetable tempura so hard crispy that it sure wasn't tempura. Worse still the dish looked so unappetizing. Sake surprise was good though.
The pigeon 5 ways was perfectly cooked, the tartare and single ravioli most worthy standouts, it lacked oomph, however, perhaps some cherries or some intense jus would have lifted it. The solitary bland, out of season, half an asparagus didn't help things. Shame really because with the right accompaniment, this would be my main of choice. Good coffee, and fab petit fours, especially the salted truffle. Would definitely visit again to see how the chef does, as he evolves. For one star worth a visit, for sure, just stay away from...
Read moreFirst of all, amazing experience, very glad I did it. Eating at one of these fancy restaurants for rich people was on my bucket list so now I can cross it off. If you're looking for the same, then Per Me is an excellent option.
I went for the 10-course tasting with 5 wine pairings, and everything was either really good or mind blowing- really good meaning high quality expensive food, mind blowing meaning Food Wars-level mouthgasms. I can't really explain much more about taste since you have to experience it to understand, but see pics to get an idea. Some helpful tips for fellow poor people that I didn't know til after: Starve yourself for a day or two if you plan on the 10-course because you will get sickly full toward the end. I had to leave early because I felt so sick, but they kindly boxed the last 2 dishes for me as takeaway. The wine they give you is good stuff, and I was drunk after bottle 4. They give you full glasses rather than just a sip or two worth. I couldn't finish all of it for fear of trying to walk back to my hotel wasted. The entire experience took about 3 hours. I have no idea if that's normal or not, but plan accordingly for time. 10 courses with 5 wine pairings totalled out to €220. I had no idea it would be that expensive, so just be sure to come monetarily prepared.
Service was incredible, as to be expected in a top notch establishment, but the doors were kept locked past 1900. I had made my reservation for 1900, but the sign outside says they don't open til 1930, so I guess maybe there's some confusion with that? They let me in around 1915 when they realized I was there with a reservation though.
Overall it was awesome and if this is something you've always wanted to do, give it a shot. It's really fun to pretend you're royalty...
