I dined at Alla Rampa on February 18, and while the atmosphere was pleasant, my overall experience left me with mixed feelings.
The restaurant has a good atmosphere, and I was seated immediately upon arrival. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of dishes that look promising. Service was efficient—right after being seated, I was asked if I wanted water and was served a bottled one (which I knew would come at an additional cost).
For my meal, I ordered an Aperol Spritz, Maialino Al Forno (roast suckling pig), and Tiramisu**. While waiting, I was served bread and breadsticks, which I assumed were complimentary since I hadn’t ordered them.
The Maialino Al Forno arrived in about 10 minutes. The pork was moist and tender, but there was nothing particularly outstanding about it. The roasted potatoes on the side were on the saltier side. The Tiramisu was good but on the sweeter side. Again, while enjoyable, it didn’t stand out compared to other tiramisus I’ve had.
The most surprising part of my experience came when I received the bill. I was charged an extra 3 euros for the bread, which I never ordered. Additionally, when the waiter presented my total, it was 53 euros, but he then added, "with taxes, it will be 60 euros. This confused me because, in my experience dining in Italy, VAT and other taxes are typically included in the menu prices. I was too tired to question it at the time, so I simply paid and even tipped the waiter an extra 10 euros.
Looking back, I noticed that several other customers—mostly Asian (Japanese)—also appeared confused when settling their bills, which makes me wonder if this was a common issue at the restaurant.
Alla Rampa has a decent atmosphere and good food, but be mindful of extra charges that may appear on your bill. If you decide to dine here, I recommend carefully reviewing your receipt...

We came here as a group of seven (5 adults, 2 kids) for a last-minute dinner after taking photos on the Spanish Steps nearby 📸 There were open outdoor tables that could fit our group and the menu looked like it had something for everyone. The dinner options were fine overall—but very average and overpriced. And, it didn’t feel authentically Italian although we did notice they seemed known for their desserts 🍰
Unfortunately, the real issue here was the service. From the moment we sat down, it felt like we were a nuisance 😔 Our server was rude, cut us off mid-order, and answered questions with visible irritation. We weren’t the only ones—another table nearby told us they had the same experience with the exact same server. We even witnessed him fling ice from a guest’s cup onto the street after they politely said they didn’t want it. The whole outdoor section exchanged looks after that 👀
Other red flags piled up along the way 🚩 We asked for bread early (after ordering drinks) but didn’t get to officially order it until we placed orders for entrées. And the worst—our bill. It should have been around €190, but the server entered €250 on the card machine and said it was “okay” since there’s no tip included and that was the “suggested” amount everyone pays. If we hadn’t caught it, we would have been overcharged significantly 💸
Overall, this place reads as a tourist trap—average food, inflated prices, and appalling service 👎 We left without dessert and with zero desire...
Read moreOur first bad experience in Italy and Rome. Service was awful! I asked our waiter several different questions and he refused to answer them and just have blanket responses back “it’s good” to all questions. The bread was so old and chewy it was like American beef jerky but in a bad way. The Caesar salad was absolutely brutal. I know this is more American salad but we have had several good ones in Italy and this came out with some nasty mayo looking spread on it with absolutely NO flavor. Our bruschetta we ordered came out so soggy you couldn’t even lift the bread off the plate, it was gross. Then we said let’s be patient I’m sure it’ll get better. My fish dish came out and the waiter told my wife her sea bass was coming shortly after. It was 10-12 minutes and I waited to eat my dish til hers came so we weren’t eating alone. By that time my fish was cold and again NO FLAVOR at all! The potatoes had no flavor. My wife’s sea bass we had them filet it and take out the bones. She ended up with 10+ bones still in her fish and it was again flavorless. Our bill came and for 170 it was by far the worst meal and experience ever. Also it took us 3 times asking and about 15+ minutes to get the bill. Then he just mocked us and said you Americans eat and leave too fast. No buddy, we left because you were awful and the food was somehow worse. Our waiter kept telling us he was so busy but we were his only table the first 20 minutes we were there. Do not...
