We were 8 days in Rome, and first night bumped on this place. We came over for two more times. So first night we took polenta with amatriciana souce and bruschette for start and carbonara and pasta amatriciana for. Polenta was amaising, especially amatriciana souce which is perfectly balkanced for my taste. Perfect combination of tomato sweetness and guanciale’s aromas. Bruschettes was nice, nothing special, but worth of trying. Carbonara was nice and creamy, I didn’t need additional peccirino on top. Pasta amatriciana was little bit stronger than carbonara, which I like, and both pastas was perfectly cooked al dente. For second visit we choose pinsas. Both were great! You can acctually see that ingrediants are high quality. Dough was nice and soft with perfect baked chrust and in combination wiht draft beer you don’t feel blown. Bravo! Third visit we want to change to something more concrete so for start we tried supply with lamb ragu. One of the best which we tried. Surely it is different, other ones were not with lamb ragu but this was different than others and way better. For second course we tried saltimbuca and veal in gorgonzola and pear souce. All rounded with red wine by waiter’s choice. Both meals were very very nice, but I was ammaised with veal. Ovarall this place is hidden gem in Rome. We spent cca 50€ for both of us per night. Owner and his son are doing wery best of themselves to make you comfortable and satisfy. We also didn’t make any reservation in advance! Maybe in this time of year it is not even necessary. Owner always founded table for us. All in all great little bistro in which will you enjoy. P.S. Bonus for owner. He reccomended us two great places with live music,...
Read moreA real find near the Vatican, moments from the Starhotel Michelangelo. We had dinner there twice. It offers good quality Roman home-cooking that is both healthy and good-tasting. It is an antidote to carbohydrate and fat-laden tourist menus.
The menu lists a number of well-considered Roman specialities: saltimbocca, baccala, scaloppine, various pastas, homely polenta and soups. Special mention must be made of their unique and delicious pizza. The secret is the dough - made of rice flour and polenta,(not wheat), it manages to be crispy, puffy and chewy. I had the Roma which had splodges of fresh pesto, fresh tomato, stracciata and mozzarella cheeses and shrimp, and found it wonderful. We also had the tagliere misto, a selection of cured meats, cheese and grilled vegetables. Another night we had a fresh, moist fillet of sea bream, cooked in a crust of thinly-sliced potato with tomato sauce and aromatic olives. Also Roman tripe, chewy in a well-flavoured tomato sauce. Escarole with raisins and pine nuts was tasty and healthy. A free dish of little meat-and-cheese appetisers is offered to start. Desserts are home made and a point of pride. The not-too-sweet ricotta cake with plum filling and crumble topping tasted like a Roman grandmother made it. The chocolate brownie used good chocolate - note to chef: cook it less and it will be gooey and perfect. The house wine was a warm and spicy Cabernet Franc. The setting is bohemian with vintage kitchen tables and chairs, well-spaced for Covid yet still a cosy atmosphere. Our waiter, Apple was friendly and took pains to ensure a good...
Read moreAfter traveling up and down the coast of Italy for a month now, this was the absolute best food of the entire trip - hands down.
I waited to the end of my trip to write this just to confirm the truth of it.
We loved it so much we ate here for lunch AND dinner on the same day while exploring Rome. I’m still contemplating flying out of Rome back to the USA just to get another feast here.
First off, it’s the local, farm-to-table, organic (bio) and artisan handmade food option we were hoping to find.
The pasta was my favorite I’ve ever ordered anywhere. It was so bright and richly flavored, with the noodles being perfectly Al Dente.
The Roman Pinza they serve is revolutionary to pizza and I’ve eaten pizza in the best places on earth from Los Angeles to New York.
We had the vegetarian option and the classic Margherita. Both were loaded with fresh local ingredients and flavor.
And the location is primo. 👌🏼
Away from the insane crowds of Rome, inside this cozy little nook with floor to ceiling glass windows, an artistically designed interior with excellent color palate and lots of small touches that made the dining experience exquisite.
Coffee and drinks also perfection, as well as the staff.
Can’t speak more highly of any restaurant in Italy...
